Hi, I think you are talking about Stereolithography (SLA). A company called 3D Systems makes this particular system. Unfortunately, the polymer they use costs several hundred dollars per gallon and I'm pretty sure the material is not really safe. (...) (22 years ago, 24-Oct-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Pretty cool huh, I beleive the technique is called Laser Lithography. I once contacted a company in Florida that has one of these connected to a 3D Scanner. I am sitting here, watching TLC, and i see this thing called a rapid prototyper. It, apperently, can create anything that you can 3-D model onto the computer, and churn out an unlimited number of them as long as there is enough power and this clear, (...) I just was messing around with those 3X2 wedge pieces and those horizontal hinge plates, and found an interesting build for a mecha torso. I'll render closeups of some of the main pieces of interest, including the hips and shoulders. I think you'll be suprised at how I did the hips, it's a pretty interesting technique. One of the tricks to making it look "cartoonish" is using self illumination (about 35%) on the materials, that way the colors are vibrant and you (...) ABS won't just flow into a mold in the oven, you need lots of pressure. I recommend using cheese instead. Cheddar is better for sculpting but Velveeta has superior flow (Sharp and Jack develop rubbery skin and Mozarella and especially string cheese (...) (22 years ago, 16-Oct-02, to lugnet.build)

Hi James, The final design will Walk. Though it will not be Bipedal I'm afraid. I have a few ideas brewing around multiple legs. At first I wanted a bipedal necha but the lack of gyro tech concludes the thought. Multiple legs will be the solution. (...) Tony! Thanks, The spine will be mounted on two Technic Turntables. This will be the main bearing. I'm gonna see if a side twist can be addded. We'll see what kind of room I end up with. I've recently unearthed some good refrence material that inspired me to add more detail to my MOCs. I've started with the aircraft that I'm the most familiar with; The American Teen series fighters. I really like the shapes in the torso, all that snot. mmmm This whole mecha is incredibly cool, awesome knees there. The feet are sweet too. One of (...)
