Hi all,

My name is Magnus Lauglo, some of you may know me from the castlehead newsgroup
or remember me from BrickFests past.

Recently though, Rick Hallman's Hover Vehicle contest gave me inspiration to lay
down my sword and Black Falcon's shield and step out from behind my old grey
battlements for a while. I've wanted to get back into space/military type
building for a while and I hope that this isn't my last MOC in this theme.

I present to you the Demon Medium Dropship MK II.

http://brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=108373

I'd like to thank Rick Hallman for temporarily hosting my pictures on his
Brickshelf page. And I'm still mastering the art of taking pics of my MOC, so
sorry for the large image size.

The Demon was aesthetically inspired by the Russian Mil 24 Hind D
gunship helicopter. I wanted to build a futuristic aggressive looking dropship
with a similar double canopy. Design was started on the Demon one all night
building session with spacer Fradel Gonzalez sitting in as advisor and a few
beers if memory serves me well.

I'm quite pleased with the result, particularly with the folding skid
landing gear and the look of the front with the weapons wings and double
cockpit. I was also able to get the camoflague scheme of white
underneath and tan on top done pretty consistently.

The Demon is 43 studs long and 39 bricks wide.  It has a crew of two
(pilot and navigator/gunner), and can drop six or seven troops with their
equipment into the middle of any battle zone via its rear ramp. It has four
swivelling engines on the ends of each wingtip, giving it full VTOL capability.

The Demon is armed with a pair of 12.7 mm heavy machine guns in the fuselage,
50 mm cannons and six air to ground rockets in the wings and a chin turret
mounted 7.62 minigun.

This fearsome armament is intended primarily to clear hot landing zones of
hostiles, rather than dedicated anti armour missions, but the Demon can pack
quite a punch against armor if the situation demands it.

Incidently, this is the main production MK II version. The initial version (MK
I) had slimmer, more attractive but ultimately unstable landing gear, a rear
facing gun turret and side doors. Unfortuntely only one picture is known of this
prototype, taken by Abe Friedman at a WAMALUG meeting in November.

Enjoy and PLMKWYT!

Cool ship, definitely reminiscent of the Hind. Also reminds me of the Orca hoverships from Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun. Neat stuff! -Stefan- (20 years ago, 14-Dec-04, to lugnet.space)

Very cool! The curved spindle railings as gun shielding, the 2x2x10 column in the spine, and the 1/4 circle curved wall are my favorite brick uses in the model. The tan/white color scheme is aces! I always love HUD's, always. One of the easiest ways (...) (20 years ago, 14-Dec-04, to lugnet.space)

(...) snip (...) snip Seeing the demon, I immediately thought of the Hind, so your inspiration came through very clearly. I love the tan/white camo color scheme, I'd like to see more mech and sci-fi MOCs in that scheme, but of course parts are hard (...) (20 years ago, 14-Dec-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) Hey Magnus. A MOC like that makes me glad for your return to this genre I think this drop ship is very well done. The landing gear is perfect for it and the color scheme works great. The Hind is one of my favorite helicopters and I often find (...) (20 years ago, 14-Dec-04, to lugnet.space)

(...) Hey! This is a great number...as said, that colour scheme is sadly underused and a refreshing break from our usual 'grey + X' dealio. I quite like how you married up the base of the canopies on to the hull without it having that stuck on look. (...) (20 years ago, 14-Dec-04, to lugnet.space)

(...) I think the engines need a little work, but the overall look and feel of the MOC is solid. I like the use of the column piece on top. I also like how you used white on the bottom to simulate a military color scheme. Well done. -Grand Admiral (...) (20 years ago, 14-Dec-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
