Access a LEGO set DB with your phone! —Christopher L. Weeks
Hi all, I've been playing with VXML and wanted some pet projects to help me learn. So I've been looking at my hobbies for applications. I am continually amazed at how many of you can remember so many LEGO set numbers/names/prices and other stats. (...)      (...) Hi! I've been a TELLME user for ages, since they were in early beta actually. It's a neat idea (although not sure it's a moneymaking one), and I use it a lot to find out weather in destination cities or just to kill a little time in the (...)      (...) I'm a long time user too! I used to use the phone book more than anything and it sucks that they removed it. Now I use the traffic keyword more than anything, but I drive more than I fly so that might account for our different focus. (...) (...)      (...) Worked for me when I just tried it again. This is way way cool, it's just the thing to access when trying to evaluate "clearance" at jackup places like KB if you don't already have the data on a Palm (which I don't have, too much stuff to (...)      (...) wow - neat! are you entering all the data by hand? perhaps you could use the LUGNET Guide data, so you could enter all the data? Also, would it be possible to add the rest of the info, like piece count, fig count, etc? maybe have it say if (...) (22 years ago, 11-Mar-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: Access a LEGO set DB with your phone! —Christopher L. Weeks
(...) I used LUGNET Guide data as a base. Is that kosher? I'd love to weave a comprehensive VXML front end to the Guide, Peeron, BrinkLink, etc. but I think that project might be beyond me and would require substantial assistance from the owners of (...)      (...) AFAIK, there is no problem with that. (...) heh, need to figure out how the information could be presented in a useful way. (...) it's already available: (URL)maybe have it say if peeron has an inventory for this set, so you (...) now that (...) (22 years ago, 11-Mar-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Access a LEGO set DB with your phone! —Kevin Loch
Cool! What speech synthesis package are you using? It kind of reminds me of the AT&T Text to speech system (femail option). If it is, try using the male voice, he's much more pleasant/amusing to listen to. (URL) used to have fun with that at work, (...) (22 years ago, 11-Mar-02, to lugnet.general)

Isn't it a shame that we feel compelled to make these comments in hopes of forestalling another major *appropriate (...) (22 years ago, 11-Mar-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) Chris, Very cool application of vxml, I like it. It's definitely more interesting than the vxml stuff I use at work. If you haven't already, try the IBM Voice Server SDK out, it's really handy for developing vxml apps. Take care, Gary (22 years ago, 11-Mar-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) For the benefit of the curious outside of North America, what is this 1-800 TELL service? Since it's 1-800, I assume it's a free call. Who runs it and how do they get revenue from it? Kerry (22 years ago, 13-Mar-02, to lugnet.general)
