But when I look at a POV file from L3P, WHAM.  There is so much there.  If I
don't KNOW what to look for, I wouldn't be able to read it.  In the past I have
never been able to read it, but after a year of messing with Anton's stuff, now
I know what to look for, so I can ignore the heaps and heaps of info that
doesn't really matter when all I want is to spin a model in the air and bounce
it off the ground or something.

I'd agree with this. But what I do with an L3Lab output (which is how I generate
my static images in POV from LDraw files) is immediately strip the camera and
viewpoint stuff out and make it into an .inc file, my main file just includes
what it needs. (when I say "my", I really mean "what Bram set up for me years
ago and I still use, because it works")

I had no idea that L3Lab had POV output, in spite the fact that I've been using
it daily for years!

Hmm, very intersting. The alternative approach that comes to my mind is:
* LDA creates a static MPD file and runs it through L3P.
* The output file is postprocessed (camera etc stripped off) and renamed to
*.inc
* LDA also creates a smaller POV file with all frames in a switch statement!
Yeah! That could really work...
