Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

"Matthias Jetleb" <jetleb@netcom.ca> wrote in message news:3ac170e2.730407...net.com... (...) It seems quite the opposite in fact. Companies PAY to have their products featured. It is probably more about the prominant display of logos than the (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation, lugnet.lego.direct)

  Offtopic .. outgassing

In lugnet.publish.cinema, Matthias Jetleb writes: You know, I have noticed this. Scratch a LEGO and you can definately smell a strange odor coming from it, a very unpleasant odor. I bet as they slowly, slowy decompose that give off fumes. But since (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

I've had conversations with the directors of the film in question. They did NTO sign a no distribute contract. The only thing close to it is that one of the creators sent a letter to them promising he wouldn't distribute it, but this was after LEGO (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

I think people are missing a few key points in this discussion. Consider your average movie or television show... some of the comments made in this thread have suggested that you can't use a company's product in a movie without express permission. (...)   Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

Hey everyone. I don't usually post and I'm usually pretty passive when the TLC does something to tick everyone off around here. But this time they have gone too far. If I buy a Lego set, that is mine do with as I see fit. Someone already mentioned (...) (24 years ago, 28-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

Snipped everything out, but... Unless you 1) use the LEGO logo; 2) present the film as official production of TLC; 3) use LEGO products in the endorsement of something else, TLC has no right to say what can and can't be done with their products. I (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation)

(...) <snip> (...) Quite right (assuming the resolution is too poor to distinguish the "Lego" printed on each stud ;-). Someone who uses Lego *bricks*, and identifies them only as "plastic building blocks" or something of the sort would probably be (...)   Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

(...) ...did not NECESSARILY sign... (...) True, true. Not in and of themselves. But we don't *know* what contract was signed, exactly. Were I LEGO(r), I would put a clause in any contract, after the concentration camp incident, that gave me control (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

They may have provided materials, but the creators did not sign a contract stating they would not distribute it because of this. I hate to argue this point too finely, but providing the materials has nothign to do with the copyright of the words or (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation)

Re: TLC/TLG about to supress fan created films?

Actually, I would say it's much, much different. I think a better analogy would be that if you bought Play-doh and made an animated film, certainly Fischer-Price (or whoever makes PLay-Doh) would not have the right to suppress your film. There is (...) (24 years ago, 27-Mar-01, to lugnet.animation, lugnet.lego.direct)
