There are least two people (probably a LOT more) who are having horrible
problems getting MS Outlook Express to send the right 'From' line from the data
they've given...they're stumped as to how to make it work, and I don't have MS
Outlook, so I'm no help.
Here's the scenario:
1. First they succesfully complete teh news-posting setup at
<http://www.lugnet.com/news/post/setup/> and receive confirmation that it's
OK to post. They've filled out the data there like this:
True Identity:
Name: John Doe
E-mail: jdoe@cyberfoobar.com
News-Posting Identity:
Name: John Doe
E-mail: john.doe@nospam.cyberfoobar.com
2. They submit an article to the server and it's rejected. They write me and
ask why, and I look in the dead-articles file on the server and it turns
out that Outlook was sending the following 'From' line:
From: John Doe <jdoe@cyberfoobar.com>
when it was supposed to be sending:
From: John Doe <jdoe@nospam.cyberfoobar.com>
3. So they go back to Outlook and change some settings, and now Outlook sends
this:
From: <jdoe@nospam.cyberfoobar.com>
and of course, the posts are still rejected because the expected 'From'
line still isn't correct.
4. So they try removing the spamblock (which makes sense, because it worked
earlier without it) and now Outlook sends:
From: <jdoe@cyberfoobar.com>
which is still missing their name.
That's about all I understand so far. I don't know exactly what settings
they're tweaking -- and in one case it was a spamblock that messed up Outlook,
and in another case it was a mismatch between some foo.com vs. some bar.com.
Is there some rilly wacked-up zany bug there inside Outlook which permanently
ruins its ability to send a correct 'From' line? Or is it just that the
settings dialogs are super-picky about how things are entered?
Any help would from other Outlook users would be greatly appreciated on behalf
of the two people I'm stuck trying to help...
