Tim Courtney, who is organizing the LDraw extravaganza at LEGOLAND
California's Kidvention event in July, has offered to help distribute
LUGNET literature at the LDraw table -- both as part of an information
sheet about LDraw and as its own information sheet.
This is really great, because Tim estimated from having spoken with someone
at LEGOLAND California that several thousand people per day may pass through
the LDraw area.
Tim is allocating a landscape-shaped section 1/8 of the 8 1/2" x 11" LDraw
sheet -- or an area measuring 5 1/2" x 2 1/8" -- for LUGNET as it relates to
LDraw. That's plenty of room for the logo, the name, and a couple sentences
describing what it's about. I'll send Tim a file which he can embed in his
page when he prints the LDraw sheets.
In terms of a separate dedicated LUGNET sheet, we looked at a couple of
options this past week -- one was business-sized cards (basically business
cards) and the other was bulk photocopying. It turns out (not too
unexpectedly) that having color cards printed up in bulk is far more
expensive than having a sheet photocopied in bulk. I can get a bulk rate
of US$.02 per one-sided photocopied page, in quantities above 2000, or
US$.01 per half-page -- that's a great rate: US$40 plus tax for 4000
5 1/2" x 8 1/2" information sheets. In comparison, the business-sized cards
would have been US$.23 each for a quantity of 1000, US$.16 each for a quantity
of 2000, or US$.13 each for a quantity of 4000 -- even if 20,000 (ouch) cards
were ordered, they would be US$.11 each. (This was for decent quality
7-color cards.)
Anyway, for cost reasons, it's clear that a photocopied half-page is the way
to go. And it can say a lot more too. I'll print these here in Boston and
ship them to California sometime next week.

it in a fresh way as a new or casual user would see it.

| (...) Some bad news ... I found out today from the Kidvention coordinator that we will not be allowed to pass out literature at the park. Its a Legoland California rule against it, so we are left to assume it has to do with litter control more than (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.events)
