What is LUGNET?!?!

I certainly have my ideas about what it is, but I'm too close to it to look at
it in a fresh way as a new or casual user would see it.

* What's the attraction?  Why do people show up?

LUGNET: The most civil spot on the net.
LUGNET: _The_ online community for LEGO Enthusiasts.

There are a ton of well-mannered and interesting people here all talking about
LEGO and LEGO-related themes.

* Why do more people stay than leave?

Because it is very friendly.  Because it's the only resource of the type
around.  Because if you want to know about LEGO, this is IT.

* What do people get out of LUGNET and their online experiences?

up to the minute information from around the world.  Stimulating intellectual
discussion.  Databases of good information.

* What are the best 3 things about LUGNET?

The user community.
The administrators.
The future.

* What are the best 10 things about LUGNET?

The user community.
The administrators.
The future.
The information.

* Why should anyone who's never heard of LUGNET check it out?

Because it is the comprehensive source of LEGO information on the net.

* Why was LUGNET created?

Umm...wouldn't you be the one to answer that?  (Because it was(n't) there.)

* Why do people organize unofficial LEGO events?

To have fun.
Because official LEGO events are few and far between.

* Why do people form and join LEGO user groups and clubs?

To have fun.
To connect with others who spend entirely too much time thinking about the
brick.

* Why do people want to talk to other people about LEGO?

Because our wives think we're lunatics.
To share new building techniques and stuff.

* What are people missing if they never go online?

A clue.  (oh wait, you probably want nice answers)
Most of the advantages of living in the latter quarter of the 20th century.
A sense of global community centered on this very cool hobby.

Tim Courtney, who is organizing the LDraw extravaganza at LEGOLAND California's Kidvention event in July, has offered to help distribute LUGNET literature at the LDraw table -- both as part of an information sheet about LDraw and as its own (...)
