Someone's at it again with SPAM —Frank Filz
Someone's at it again with SPAM. This time it was definitely culled from Lugnet, I got two messages with subject lines Re:xxxx which are both threads I have posted in. I will be happy to e-mail Todd the full messages if he wants to pursue this. I (...) (24 years ago, 26-May-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Someone's at it again with SPAM —Eric Kingsley
(...) FYI I got one two. Actually it was on one of my Map posts. Unfortunately I was so peeved when I got it I just deleted it. Unfortunately I don't know that there is much for Todd to do. IMO something like this would be something of a maintenance (...) (24 years ago, 26-May-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Someone's at it again with SPAM —Frank Filz
(...) Well, I checked a few things out. The web page the e-mail references to appears to be maintained by a Stuart Humphrey using the e-mail address used in the SPAM. He doesn't appear to be a member or to have posted (or at least posted using his (...) (24 years ago, 26-May-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Someone's at it again with SPAM —Frank Filz
(...) Oops, didn't pay enough attention, Scott and others have already highlighted this. The two messages I received "replies" to were to non-shopping newsgroups. It sounds like it might be worthwhile Todd checking out if the from headers are (...) (24 years ago, 26-May-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Someone's at it again with SPAM —Matthew Miller
(...) Agreed. Unfortunately, it looks to be from someone with a free ISP account in the UK. Freeserve doesn't explicity outlaw spam but they do say "In particular, you will not use Freeserve to transmit or post anymaterial which is defamatory, (...)          Re: Someone's at it again with SPAM —Frank Filz
(...) They do seem to leave enough room to terminate accounts for situations like this. If I was an ISP, I would attempt to get this problem resolved, and reccomend they change their T&C. If they are not willing to change their T&C, I would push to (...) (24 years ago, 26-May-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Someone's at it again with SPAM —Matthew Miller

Re: Someone's at it again with SPAM —Dan Boger
(...) while good, this still doesn't solve the general problem of spam off lugnet. How about hiding posting email addresses on messages posted, except for members? Just have it say "From: Dan_Boger@luget.com" or just "From: (...) (24 years ago, 26-May-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Someone's at it again with SPAM —Kevin Bannister
(...) then all the mail spammers send would be going directly to lugnet, something i don't think any of us want (especially the sysadmins!). spammers generally don't handpick e-mail addresses, they usually harvest them from the web or newsgroups or (...)           Re: Someone's at it again with SPAM —Dan Boger
(...) First of all, in this case, it seems like the spammer just replied to any message he could find in lugnet... As for the spam going to the newsgroups, it can (and it does) only if the poster has gone through the mail setup procedure. Otherwise, (...) (24 years ago, 26-May-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Someone's at it again with SPAM —Todd Lehman
(...) Email addresses are a fundamental element of the NNTP & SMTP header paradigms. Although (in theory) it would be very easy to 'hide' email addresses from non-members via the web interface, it's much less practical via SMTP and almost completely (...)         Re: Someone's at it again with SPAM —Kevin Wilson
Yep, I got it too. First time I've had any of these spam messages and I find this one even more objectionable than the others I read about - it's blatant. Chuck him off LUGNET! Did anyone notice on his site, as well as the crazy high starting prices (...) (24 years ago, 26-May-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
