How about hiding posting email addresses on messages posted, except for
members?  Just have it say "From: Dan_Boger@luget.com"  or just "From:

easier to block him...

then all the mail spammers send would be going directly to lugnet, something
i don't think any of us want (especially the sysadmins!).  spammers generally
don't handpick e-mail addresses, they usually harvest them from the web or
newsgroups or both, or get a list .. so they wouldn't realize that their
messages weren't going to real people, and it wouldn't make any difference
to them.

First of all, in this case, it seems like the spammer just replied to any
message he could find in lugnet...  As for the spam going to the newsgroups, it
can (and it does) only if the poster has gone through the mail setup procedure.
Otherwise, the messages will just bounce.

i don't see how it would make blocking the right (if there is such a thing)
person any easier, either .. maybe you could elaborate?

If the emails are shown only to members, the only people who can spam other are
lugnet memebers.  I'm sure Todd could just flag any such spammer so he will NOT
see emails, just like any non-member.

No?
