.loc.eu (was: Re: UKLUG Prototype online) —Todd Lehman
(...) I was wondering about the same thing the other day, when Mario needed to be able to post to a whole bunch of European countries. The bummer of it is, even though .eu isn't assigned an ISO country code AFAIK, the other continents that would (...) (25 years ago, 5-Dec-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: .loc.eu (was: Re: UKLUG Prototype online) —James Brown
(...) Erm, Umm, how many AFOL's are down there, anyway? I mean, really. And is it really necessary? The population of Antartica is exclusive to about a 1/2 dozen scientists squished into research trailers, so are these groups really necessary? Or (...)          Re: .loc.eu (was: Re: UKLUG Prototype online) —Lindsay Frederick Braun
(...) I don't know about you, but when I'm trapped all by myself and bored out of my gourd, I want either to play with my Lego or on the Internet (or on LUGNET, the best of both worlds). They can't even go out to the bar like people who live in (...) (25 years ago, 5-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Todd Lehman: (...) What about inserting a "continent" level above the country level? I know it will cause some problem with those barbarian invaders (Russia, Spain, and Turkey ;-) who have gotten a foothold in Europe, even though they actually (...)         Re: .loc.eu (was: Re: UKLUG Prototype online) —James Brown
(...) I thought of a possibility that would fit into the current hierarchy... lugnet.announce.north-america lugnet.announce.europe lugnet.announce.australia [etc] These groups could be used to make geography-specific announcements, like Mario's CFD (...)         Re: .loc.eu (was: Re: UKLUG Prototype online) —Simon Denscombe
(...) I think loc.eu is a special case because it's independent countries ruling themselves but also intergrated - I don't think that arrangement appears anywhere else. I know .eu is used as a second level domain europarl.eu.int for example. (...) (...) (25 years ago, 15-Dec-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: .loc.eu (was: Re: UKLUG Prototype online) —Matthew Miller
(...) For international organizations. More specifically, organizations established by international treaties. Also possibly for internet infrastructure databases. (Not sure what the thinking is on that second part.) NATO would be an example.... (25 years ago, 15-Dec-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: .loc.eu (was: Re: UKLUG Prototype online) —Mario Ferrari
(...) I agree in full. That'd be the proper place to organize major or minor events, and to inform everybody in Europe of good deals and opportunities. For example there are a few companies that sell via internet in Europe only (Toyshop, Riemann (...) (25 years ago, 15-Dec-99, to lugnet.admin.general)
