  CFD: lugnet.lego.* newsgroup hierarchy

Ever wished there were a Fabuland newsgroup? Got a soft spot for DUPLO Toolo? How about Pirates? Wild West? Castle? All of these (and more) are definitely in the plan -- it's just a matter of giving them names and positions in the larger newsgroup (...) (...) When I said there were "two main possibilities," I really meant that there were only two apparently feasable possibilities. But there's actually a third feasable possibility -- it was right under my nose and I didn't see it! (...) Here's the (...) (25 years ago, 9-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

This definitly seems like it might be a bit unweildy to me, especially as the LEGO product line grows. Now I (...) (25 years ago, 9-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: CFD: lugnet.lego.* newsgroup hierarchy

There are two ways to do this. One is completely subjective with broad categories like "space" "Town" "Trains" "Technic" etc and specific sub-themes below them, the other way is strict fact-based, with no assumptions. only If it has the system logo (...)   Re: CFD: lugnet.lego.* newsgroup hierarchy

(...) Hmm. Well, there really are have been about 30 or 35 or so major categories over the past 30 or so years, right? So it may not grow much. In the past 10 years, for example, only about 10 major categories have been added: : 1989 - LEGO® SYSTEM™ (...) (25 years ago, 9-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

In lugnet.admin.general, Todd Lehman writes: <snip> (...) From the outset, I like this better. It's more intuitive. Dropping SYSTEM, because we can't really identify a pattern as to what qualifies as SYSTEM, is a good idea as well as dropping (...) (25 years ago, 9-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Right -- Space used to be called LEGOLAND Space, but now it's called LEGO SYSTEM Space or the LEGO Space System. (I'd have to check with Joshua to be absolutely sure, but that's basically the idea.) It would take a temporal database to put (...) (25 years ago, 9-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: lugnet.lego.* newsgroup hierarchy

Hello Todd, I think your organizational structure looks just fine. I look forward to a Technic-related newsgroup. :) As far as whether to use U.S. or non-U.S. product names, well... I think that should be left at the discretion of the person doing (...) (25 years ago, 10-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) I don't see much point in trying to stick to TLG's hierarchy. Not only would it involve kludges to resolve past inconsistencies/changes, you would be faced with the prospect of having to _move_ an existing category next time TLG decides to (...)
