Re: Please help keep LUGNET clean

(...) IMHO, you have the right to be offended at anything you want in life. Getting offended is a private thing -- a state of mind -- and it isn't usually a choice, but rather a mostly-involuntary gut reaction based on past experiences and belief (...) I think I've been misquoted a bit, or maybe I wasn't clear on the offense thing, more on that below. At any rate, most importantly, this is a private service, and as such we're all beholden to comply with the rules and procedures here, on pain of (...) (...) What? Why? I like the tribal cheiftan judicial system we have now. Are you saying you don't want the job? That you would abandon your tribe? All kidding aside, The system we have now seems to work fine. You've always shown yourself to be (...) (25 years ago, 4-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) I'm saying that someday it won't be possible for a single person to handle all the mind-bandwidth necessary to keeping random riff-raff under control. Even if it were possible, it wouldn't necessarily be the best thing for the community, (...) (25 years ago, 4-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) As I said in person... find some thing that would be relatively easy to let a committee decide (NOT The ID number thing, boy what a can of worms that was) and start it... it doesn't have to be an important thing. But doing it relatively soon, (...) (25 years ago, 5-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Awright, I'd be game to give something like that a try -- for gray-area transgressions as well as for problematic non-transgressions. Example scenarios of problematic non-transgressions: * Someone scams thousands of dollars out of a dozen or (...) (25 years ago, 5-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Well, you're right, of course. I was mostly kidding with the tribal cheiftan bit, obviously, but IMHO it's worked so far. Of course, as someone noted elsewhere, the maturity level around here is pretty high, so it hasn't been a huge job from (...) (25 years ago, 5-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Please help keep LUGNET clean

When trading messages in a text-only format, the words themselves seem to take on a much stronger meaning than if they were spoken, ie. giving tone and voice alterations to convey meaning. For this reason your words need to be carefully thought out (...) (25 years ago, 6-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)
