Yes, thats true. The spotlight list is auto-generated, and posts are able to be
manually removed from the list based on any criteria at the moment. Its
definitely on the list to allow admins to remove specific posts. Other ideas
suggested have been to preclude specific threads and specific groups from being
on the spotlight.
Without a coding change, the only way to remove these posts would be to take the
automatic spotlight points from the announce and/or announce.moc groups, which I
think is rather less than optimal.
