In this reply , Suz suggests that I have been willfully misunderstanding her. She also suggests that I start my own site and run it how I want. Personally, I feel like this is a bit of an insult, but what concerns me at this moment is how does this affect my relationship with Lugnet?

Should I continue in my role as curator given that Suz has publically rebuked me and my idea of how Lugnet should be run? I feel like the owners of Lugnet have spoken against me, and that it is my place to remove myself from their house. Is that over-reacting?

If it is over-reacting, then what is the proper course? I’ve been voicing my concerns and asking what I think are important questions. Should I stop doing that? Should I change my tactic to one of purely asking for clarification? It seems to me that if I am to shut-up in regards to Lugnet, then I should also stop doing working for Lugnet - hence I should resign my position as curator.

What do you guys think? Am I missing something big here (and if so, then what?)?

Lenny, as someone else that is concerned about the future of Lugnet, but that has “started their own site and runs it how they want”, I think totally dissolving your relationship with Lugnet is (IMO) an over-reaction.

I was also feeling very uneasy about the way things were happening a few months ago, and others said they were too, so Janey and I went and created JLUG, because we felt there was a need. It seems there was, and still is, but who knows how long it will last? It doesn’t matter, if you think you have a need for another site, and you have support from others, go do it.

It may appear to you like Suz is speaking against you, and she may be, but I think that is no reason to punish the community by stopping the work you do as curator. There was a time when I was also seriously considering not only discontinuing my curatorship, but discontinuing my membership of Lugnet altogether. But I decided against both, and I’m glad I did (although I copied all my member page content to another site, just in case...). I continue to be a curator here, and hope to continue that as long as there’s something to curate.

But of course YMMV. My advice would be to wait a few days / weeks, and see if you still feel the same way. And if you do, wait a few more days / weeks ;)

Hope this helps in some way.

(...) -snip- (...) Ya Ross, That was helpful. Based on more discussion with Suz, I think I was over-reacting. Anyway, lets hope for the best. -Lenny (19 years ago, 25-Jul-05, to lugnet.admin.general, FTX)
