Localities groups for New York City

Todd, I think you may have broken NYC down too much. You could probably condense Bronx (The Bronx), Kings (which is the borough of Brooklyn but you use the county name), Manhattan Island, Queens and Staten Island (which is Richmond County but you (...)   Re: Localities groups for New York City

(...) OK, it sounds like it's premature to use the really-specific groups. So just use lugnet.loc.us.ny then, and ignore its subgroups. Someday, of course, since NYC is so freakin' huge and it takes so long to get from one side to the other by car (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Localities groups for New York City

(...) Eventually, as long as they don't drive :') (...) Long Island is part of NY State. Yonkers is a separate City at the base of NY State (right up the Hudson). (...) Boxer (25 years ago, 26-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Localities groups for New York City

(...) ^^^...^^^ Whoops, I meant lugnet.loc.us.ny.ny (...) Sure, OK. But isn't all of Long Island (and Yonkers) still part of NYC in the same sense that San Jose is part of San Francisco? They're just satellite cities 1/10 or less the size of the (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Localities groups for New York City

(...) BTW, Arlington, Virginia is (almost) to Washington, D.C. what Superior is to Duluth. So why is Arlington listed as lugnet.loc.us.va.arl and not as lugnet.loc.us.dc.arl? Well, even though a gazillion people work in D.C. and live in Arlington, (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Localities groups for New York City

(...) It appears that you are dealing with a geographic/population spoke. If that is is the case, then you could consider Yonkers as part of the Metro NYC area. I'm not convinced about Long Island. Most Long Islanders have never set foot in (...) (25 years ago, 26-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Localities groups for New York City

(...) Of course Virginia gets a local group for D.C. suburbs, but not Maryland. Do I detect a state preference here? ;) But seriously, I would like to see a Local group for D.C.'s Northern suberbs, as they stretch up to Fredrick (an hour and a half (...)   Re: Localities groups for New York City

(...) How do you feel about each of the following--? lugnet.loc.us.md - Maryland, USA lugnet.loc.us.md.fre - Frederick, Maryland lugnet.loc.us.md.sal - Salisbury, Maryland lugnet.loc.us.md.cam - Cambridge, Maryland (Probably don't need both (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Localities groups for New York City

(...) I guess that's a good way of putting it! The main jist of the loc groups is to help people meet one another in their local areas and share information about local areas. On my map, Yonkers is inside the white-colored section of the map that's (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Localities groups for New York City

(...) Yonkers doesn't really consider itself part of NYC. And they'd never travel to Brooklyn to buy Lego :') The bridge tolls alone would eat up the savings (...) Correctamundo!! (...) Exactly (...) You have groups for Suffolk and Nassau counties - (...) (25 years ago, 27-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Localities groups for New York City

(...) OK then, so you're reassuring me that no one is going to scream bloody murder if the Yonkers group were moved out of the NYC hierarchy and into the NY State hierarchy? :) That is, renaming it from lugnet.loc.us.ny.ny.yon -> (...) (25 years ago, 28-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Localities groups for New York City

(...) Should be fine. I'll send you a $1 for each complaint :') (...) Good question. Maybe a group for SE NY State would be better (...) They could, but I don't think its necessary. I'd jsut leave them as lugnet.loc.us.ny.suf and (...) (25 years ago, 28-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Localities groups for New York City

(...) Well, I don't think there is really a need for the Frederick Group, but a Northern DC Suburbs would be useful (I was just using Frederick as an example). It really is not convenient for me to go to Virginia, nor is it convenient for Virginians (...) (25 years ago, 29-Mar-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Yonkers New York newsgroup renamed

(...) All right, Ed, I'll be counting. ;-) OK -- so -- the Yonkers, New York, U.S.A. newsgroup has just been renamed: from: lugnet.loc.us.ny.ny.yon to: lugnet.loc.us.ny.yon And anyone who has e-mail subscriptions to the Yonkers group has been (...)   Re: Yonkers New York newsgroup renamed

I accidently posted the following to lugnet.admin.general. I think it was because I was reading this thread here, then switched to that group and hit reply there instead of here. Sorry. Anyway, it is probably too late for this subject. - - - - I am (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jun-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ny.yon)
