  Re: Non-RCX Drop Tower

(...) Unreal! While a true battle of material, it's certainly an impressive design. Any RCX design must appear like the easy road in comparison ;-) Understanding the mechanism is a challenge in its own right - very cool. Thanks for posting this, (...) (20 years ago, 5-Jul-06, to lugnet.technic)

  Clone brand quality

The subject should probably add "revisited" as my guess is this has been frequently re-discussed. Still, I find myself repeatedly looking at some of the clones now even popping up in German stores. Recent finds include - of course - MegaBloks and (...) (20 years ago, 5-Jul-06, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

  Re: NXT newsgroup needed

(...) Suz, I wouldn't worry too much about this - once NXT becomes widely available, a separate group will more than have its justification. You'll always find newcomer questions in such groups, as happens on all forums or lists, and the (...) (20 years ago, 5-Jul-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: motorized tank questions

(...) While this is not my primary area of building, I have noticed that the rubber tracks that came with the Cybermaster kits are relatively long and have sufficient grip to at least clear some obstacles. The downside of this is, that the rubber (...) (20 years ago, 5-Jul-06, to lugnet.build.military)

Re: Are you missing news-by-mail digests/forwards?

(...) In theory, that would be a way of handling things. In practice, this would overthrow the way mailing lists (not only LUGNET but in general) have handled header setting and reply behavior. I would not want to copy a well-known software firm in (...) (20 years ago, 24-Jun-06, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Beam me up Scotty!

(...) Congratulations, Eric, I call this a perfect reminiscence to classic Star Trek. By the way, would you mind sharing how you did the Star Fleet minifig uniforms? Thanks, Jerry (20 years ago, 23-Jun-06, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Are you missing news-by-mail digests/forwards?

(...) Okay, it appears I misunderstood you to that extent. Sorry about that. Then again, the issue is still, that mailing lists as a standard use the original From: address (which is you) but change the Reply-To field to the mailing list itself. I (...)   Re: Are you missing news-by-mail digests/forwards?

(...) This is usually due to recipients not caring about the "reply-to" field. As a subscriber, you can select whether the posts you receive via email should include the original poster or rather the newsgroup-address in the reply-to field. The (...)   News subscriptions fixed!

Okay, this is probably worthy of an official announcement: I have identified an error in the newsgroup subscription setup that prevented subscriptions for immediate delivery from being sent out to all of you. The error has been identified and fixed. (...) (20 years ago, 22-Jun-06, to lugnet.announce)

Re: This is it: We're moving!

Hi again, apparently the script doing the news2mail conversion was broken. I managed to call it from the command line and found the error. It works now, however only for new posts - I am afraid there is no reasonable way to resend posts that (...) (20 years ago, 22-Jun-06, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Are you missing news-by-mail digests/forwards?

Hi all, this is in reply to all mails I received regarding news2mail subscriptions (i.e. newsgroup subscriptions as direct delivery via email - not digests, those seem to have worked all the time): I have found the error, repaired the script and (...)   Re: This is it: We're moving!

(...) Bruce, this is what I meant with my other posts, that I would like to know of anyone currently not receiving his mail subscriptions. Apparently only the direct mail function is affected, whereas the digest function works as intended. I am (...) (20 years ago, 22-Jun-06, to lugnet.admin.general)

Mike Walsh schrieb: (...) Hi Mike, I have enabled both port 8000 and 8080 (due to other user requests) for NNTP. We are now monitoring port usage and will decide later on, which one of these two is going to stay. Currently it's about 50:50, so the (...) (20 years ago, 22-Jun-06, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Are you missing news-by-mail digests/forwards?

Hi all, I have received reports, that news-by-mail was not entirely functional. According to the logs it appears, digests do get sent out, but I cannot easily identify if all subscribers do get updated with what they subscribed for. Can you please (...)   Re: Massive Layoffs At Lego (in Enfield, CT)

Good morning, thanks to feedback from some users I noticed that image display in the LUGNET Guide did not work properly. I have reinstalled the image set und fixed a couple of links - now everything appears to be operational again. Regards, Jerry (20 years ago, 20-Jun-06, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Important: Index rebuild under way and some other issues

Ok, my apologies - I've learned a bit about history and news server ports used by LUGNET :-) Okay, from now on, ports 119, 1119, 8000 and 8080 are operational for NNTP access again. I will be monitoring usage of the individual ports and if I find (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jun-06, to lugnet.admin.general)
