| It sounds like you have some kind of short in your L293B/D circuit. Do you have any single chips you can try separately? | Jeff, JDR Microdevices sells the General Insturments CTS256AL2 chip (GI8642CAA) for ** $4.95 **. This is (I think) a slightly newer version of the same chip that Radio Shack used to sell. | James, Thanks for following up. The reason for this behavior should be fairly evident -- there are traces very close to the mounting screw holes. | (...) 12v is fine. you could up go to 18v or so w/o problems. you might not even need to change the adapter. if the yellow charge LEDs light, then the batt is charging ok. it will be slower than the original pack but maybe that is not a problem for (...) | 'a0 is an earlier and discontinued version of the 'a1. 'e1 has some different features than the 'a1 but is almost identical for HB purposes.
