RE: moving in a straight line with two motors?

Uhh --- that was a stupid comment, wasn't it? How do the Lego guys guard (or shield) against the possibility of the motor magnets disrupting the electronics or memory onboard the RCX? Carl (with a very red, I-can't -believe-I'm-an-engineer, face) (...) (26 years ago, 13-Nov-98, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Pnumatic Vavles for Mindstorm

(...) Well I must admit that this and the shape memory wire idea are the first two things I've heard suggested that might tempt me away from my official-LEGO-only attitude. The standard LEGO pneumatic valves are no fun at all (who'dathunk they'd (...) (26 years ago, 22-Nov-98, to lugnet.robotics)

At least there's one thing that CyberMaster proved - That 3 inputs is not the limit of the H8 or even all the LEGO PBricks. Clearly CyberMaster have 5 inputs, although 2 of them are fixed just like the 2 fixed motors (which is not as bad as it (...) (26 years ago, 11-Nov-98, to lugnet.robotics)

  RE: Charging Batteries

The HB wall plug charger MIGHT do the job, sort of... Generally you need a charger that makes about 15V under load to charge a 12V (nominal) battery pack.   Data Storage/Retreival

I was wondering how you store data, in the RCX memory and then retreive it. Reason is I am designing a Mapping Robot and will need to be able to store map data and later retreive it. There are AND & OR Commands so I have the means to set/read bits. (...) (26 years ago, 23-Nov-98, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Batteries?

(...) Most everything that I've read on this subject argues that NiCad memory is mainly a myth. NiCads do get damaged by overcharging or deep discharging, but except in very controlled situations they don't have a "memory". I recommend reading (URL) (...)   Real-time communication or just download programs?

Hi, I am thinking about buying the Mindstorms kit, but I was wondering if you can just download programs to execute in the brick, or if you can control it at runtime from the computer? I am interested in using it with things like genetic algorithms, (...) (26 years ago, 15-Nov-98, to lugnet.robotics)

Greetings. Work on my native mode kernel and standard library has progressed to a point where it is time to baptise the offspring. legOS V0.1 beta is now available for download on (URL) allows you to program the LEGO Mindstorms RCX in assembler and (...) Has anyone thought about increasing the memory capacity of an RCX (or is there simply not enough room inside the box)? -- "It is better to ask a 'stupid question' than to make a stupid mistake." (26 years ago, 7-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: legOS ... really a stack question

(...) Looking at my memory map, it appears that there is space for the stack in on-chip memory between fdc0 and ff7e (or thereabouts). That's just about 450 bytes. If you need more stack space than that, you'll need to move the stack to off-chip (...) (26 years ago, 2-Jan-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: I overcharged my handyboard.

Madhu: I would be very surprised that you overcharged the batteries to the point of no function. Your batteries would have to have gotten very hot for that time (batteries deteriorate in a charger due to evaporation of electrolite water). Generaly (...)   Re: Using 30VDC to drive motors
