Ben I recommend you read the Howto from the sourceforge docs section, or even better buy the Extreme Mindstorms book (Extreme Mindstorms; D. Baum, M. Gasperi, R. Hempel, L. For everyone that has been interested in firmware speed over the last few days, I am ready to announce the latest version of pbForth. This version supports the USB tower under Windows!!!! I'll have to try fastdl at some point. My pbFORTH image is assembled to live at 0x8000 and be loaded just like "real" firmware. If I use fastdl, how do I have to change my firmware assembly output to accomodate it? On the subject of configurable (...) (25 years ago, 3-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

(...) No it is not incorrect. You do have to install the USB tower drivers in order for NQC and BricxCC to use the USB tower to talk to the brick. That is not the case for the Serial tower. Thanks Dave. I hadn't downloaded the firmware yet.  Originally, I was simply hoping to use the remote control and the rcx to drive my trains.  So I didn't bother to install the software. Now I know. Thanks to Michael Barrett Andersen for helping me find the answer: the latest firmware is version 0328, and is available as part of the Mindstorms 2.5 SDK, which is downloadable freely from Lego. (19 years ago, 12-Mar-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Download the FIRM0328.LGO firmware file instead of the FIRM0309.LGO file before you load your NQC programs into the brick. The newer firmware was supplied with (...) (...) I believe that is exactly what legOS does. It compiles your program and stores it in the firmware area. legOS has no firmware, and it ignores the ROM code, too. It accesses all the hardware directly. That's my understanding, at least. (21 years ago, 5-Nov-03, to lugnet.robotics)

I dont know about the vision command, but the sdk avalible on mindstorms website (2.0 beta) does not update the application. They also are not offering a special upgrade kit (to my knowledge). I haven't seen it previously mentioned but the open source firmware for version 1.05 is downloadable from the LEGO Mindstorms web site. I did a WINDIFF on the various source files to see what has changed in this release. I then manually examined the (...) (17 years ago, 17-Oct-07, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.nxt)

One thing that might be hampering you is the cabling. The cable that comes with the Mindstorms kit is a null modem cable in the sense that the RX and TX lines are swapped. (Hense the two female connectors). I haven't checked to see if any of the (...) (26 years ago, 29-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)
