You can use events with a 1.0 RCX, but only if you load the 2.0 firmware into
it. Download the FIRM0328.LGO firmware file instead of the FIRM0309.LGO file
before you load your NQC programs into the brick. The newer firmware was
supplied with the Vision Command camera and is also available on the LEGO
website as part of the MindStorms 2.5 SDK, available at
http://mindstorms.lego.com/eng/community/resources/default.asp if you don't
already have it.
NQC is an excellent way to get started in RCX programming. You may also want to
look at John Hansen's BricxCC, http://hometown.aol.com/johnbinder/bricxcc.htm
which is a really great development environment with support for a variety of
programming languages. I am still thanking John for making it possible to run
GCC and BrickOS on my Windows 98 machine. When you outgrow NQC (which might
take awhile) check out BrickOS!
Have fun!
- Chris.
