I'm using LegOS 0.2.3 under a Slackware 7 Linux install and everything seemed to work perfectly to begin with. All of the IR sensors I've seen use a pulsed IR emitter so that the detector can distinguish between the emitted IR and ambient (e.g. sunlight). (...) Ah, true... for a Ping-Pong ball you probably don't need a multistage launcher. What you would want to do instead is use a pair of the large wide (flat?) tires and then make some sort of mechanism to push a ball (or drop it) into the launcher (...) Exactly, Hot wheels uses the idea as well as those machines that shoot tennis or baseballs for practice. The baseball ones use a boat trailler wheel driven by an electric motor. I want to thank the list for such excellent suggestions. Here's a progress report: I used all 4 of the "big" wheels (tires and hubs) that come with the RIS, dual-mounted (like the rear wheels on a tractor-trailer) and opposite each other. The gap (...) (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)
