Re: Has anyone thought of this?

(...) Yeah but the ones on the motor (that do the actual driving) have rubber rings. Until they get worn down. So I guess it's not an issue for non-driven wheels, but your example suggested you're thinking about using them for driving too. ROSCO (20 years ago, 20-Jan-06, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Has anyone thought of this?

(...) Yes, I know this too. In fact my first choice WAS the 2x2 round plate for this same reason, and I didn't think of it as being as good for the same reason. But it can easily be greebled up externally by bogie detailing, and be made to look (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-06, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

  Re: Make tracks in LDraw

(...) It took me a while to figure out the angle and a rotation point, but here you go. (URL) Dean Earley, Dee (dean@earlsoft.co.uk) irc: irc://irc.blitzed.org/ web: (URL) +44 (0)780 8369596 (20 years ago, 20-Jan-06, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.cad)

Re: Has anyone thought of this?

(...) I think you're gonna have a couple of problems with it: The 2x2 round parts don't always attach very strongly to the flange parts - and as they carry the weight and provide the traction, they will probably be prone to falling off unless you (...)   Re: Why Java for Robots (university vs hobbyists)

(...) Maybe we are at cross purposes here. You may be right, that for many hobbyists, Java is too advanced and complex, and since their needs are simpler, C is more than enough. Ease of use and low cost is probably more important than computing (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Why Java for Robots (was NXT and bluetooth enabled phones)

(...) Why do you say that? I thought we were discussing Java on robotics. You said Java for small robots was not practical. I presented our system as but one implementation which works. (...) That's the total *available* memory. The JVM is in (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Sticker sides

(...) Basically the color of the sides and back of the LDraw sticker should be the same color as the paper (or plastic) the real life sticker is printed on. In other words, if the back side of the real life sticker is white then the sides and back (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts, FTX)

Where are all the female minifigs?

Dear LEGO, It seems that in the past couple of years, female minifigs have completely vanished from most of the new lines. There are none in Dino Attack, none in the Vikings, none in Knights Kingdom, none in ExoForce, and there are none in any of (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Has anyone thought of this?

(...) Kids eh, It's why I don't go to skateboard parks anymore. Fraction of my age and ten times as good. They won't say your too old because secretly they all want to see the old guy fall down. I had a six your old say to me "no-one stacks like you (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Why java (or other langs) for Robots

(...) ... (...) The 3-level concept as traditionally taught doesn't really say #2 is 'subsumption' -- that's my perception of it. Here's an example of typical course material: (URL) was just making a rough analogy to your "3 levels of robotics (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Arched Through Truss Bridge - LegoWorld 2005 Bridge strength contest

(...) WOW! That's very impressive. (yeh, I know- I'm a little late in posting this. :-) It has a nice shape and looks very stout. The relatively large height (compared to the span length) gives it a lot of strength. I like how you doubled some of (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.technic)

  Sticker sides

Hello, At the first bullet of the LDraw Official Library Standard for Sticker Parts (URL) is written: (...) Some new stickers submitted to the parts tracker have the colors at the edges of the front continuing on the sides. Is the article outdated (...)   Re: NXT release date.

(...) Yeah, I can understand though I still contend 100 is too small darn it! But your point is well understood (especially by me who has dealt with countless examples of this scenario). (...) Its fantastic no doubt! Very rarely do you find such a (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: NXT release date.

(...) I suspect that the logistics is a big issue. I am a debugger for a living, and know how to report the information that is critical to a bug. As a developer (of LPub and LSynth for example). Most of the bugs reported to me are extremely vague (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: What to do if not selected for the NXT Developer's Program?

Re: Why Java for Robots (was NXT and bluetooth enabled phones)

Bruce (...) Ermm. How much does a NXT have? No doubt you think that everyone should buy one of your systems but far more NXTs will be sold. Lookng at the posts on other robotics newsgroups, I reckon that over 90% of home-made robots do not have (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Dan (...) (at (...) Wow, that's nice to hear. Brooke's philosopy deals very neatly with levels 1 and 2 but how do CMU say we should integrate the high-level stuff into it? That has always been my difficulty with subsumption architecture. It's fine (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: NXT release date.

(...) Even though I do wish all of the above conjecture was true, I think it might be just a slip on the LEGO SHOP website. I agree that the August date was probably chosen to be inline with the next school year and that there is a strong (...) (20 years ago, 19-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)
