  Re: LSynth and string

(...) I like Larry's string part better for several reasons. His braid is implemented as twisted surfaces rather than edge lines so it'll show up in both LDRAW and POV. It also uses many less poly's so it'll draw significantly faster. And finally, (...) (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LSynth and string

(...) Those certainly are advantages. I just crashed MLCad trying to use it in a model so I could play with the color so it took me a while to look at it. Honestly, I don't think it does any better at modeling twisting than I did. I at least have (...) (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LSynth and string

(...) Is this one any better? (URL) does have the advantage of actually being submitted to the Parts Tracker, and now it's certified for the next release. Steve (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: I'm not a trainhead!!

Man, those trains take those corners fast! I felt like I was being thrown around just watching that. Those poor mini-figures sure must have a rough commute... -Greg (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  I need geek help please

I need geek (said in a totally respectful manner) help please. I know this is totally off topic, but since im the pc "guru" in my circle (yeah I know, pathetic) Im turning to rtl for help here. As I mentioned, new computer, first time on XP.... (...) (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto, FTX)

  Re: LSynth and string

(...) I can think of a way to deal with different coloured strands. You rotate each element (with the multiple-colours defined on it) around the gradient of the position of each element, increasing the angle as you go along. I can send details on (...) (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: Robotic simulators

(...) Dear Dan, I'm an Applied Mathematician/Physicist and have been to a couple of meetings where we take problems pozed by companies that can't solve them in-house. One set of these meeting is in Denmark and I was speaking to some people who were (...) (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: LSynth and string

(...) er... ya. Didn't they actually DO green string already or am I misremembering? (...) That's pathetic. (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: LSynth and string

(...) Will it be a problem if LEGO ever do green string? ;) At this time, using the best available string element seems like the way to go. AFAIK, Larry's string is the best. Steve (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)

Dan (...) new (...) tech, (...) the (...) I don't think it's a technical problem, I think it's down to budgets. It _can_ be done well (or at least faked well) on a PC but it costs too much. 90% of users don't care and the accountants who run games (...) (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Sweep Building

(...) Calum - I noticed that building right away in the photos that others had posted. It jumped right out at me. Brilliant! And much thanks for taking the time to put together the "behind the scenes" look at the Sweep Building. I think it is (...) (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Steve (...) No. Even in the 2D version, you can have different weight distribution, different motors and gears and any number of different wheels arranged where you like with akerman steering, skid steering, idler wheels, casters, etc. Then the (...) (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Conditional lines on sloped wedge parts 43720 and 43721

(...) Hey, thanks testing it out. You're right about the conditionals zig-zagging a bit. I still have the feeling that if the surface were pinned down to the concave green line those zig-zags would go away. But I couldn't decide whether to divvy it (...)   Re: Harbor crane / horse and cart

I like that a lot. It takes courage to look at something round with domes and strange non-symetrical angles and think, "I'll make that out of Lego"! Details that really grabbed me was the crane ams, very well done and the pilings in the sea that the (...) (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.build, FTX)

  Re: LSynth and string

(...) Umm... you REALLY should use a better string element than mine! It is really not very accurate as it doesn't model the three strands at all. It was just a quick hack, and it has fixed colors, if LEGO ever do red or white string it won't work. (...) (21 years ago, 26-Apr-05, to lugnet.cad)
