Those are great! My favorite is the red boxcar with the green haired hobo.

CoooooWul!!!
I love the SD90. Brilliant work. What, though, are the elements you're using in
the handrail stanchions?? I can't quite make out that top bit.
I've had a GE Dash 8-40CW stewing in the back of my mind since completion of my
GP38-2. I might just have to get around to working on it sometime soon.
Nice set of cars. I'm sure they look fantastic lumbering along as a train. I'm
impressed with both the 'weighty' look and the detail you've worked in.
Definitely a standard to work toward.
Thanks for the post and pics!
Cheers,
KMaynes

Looks like minifig box wrenches from the tool wheels. If I'm right I expect to
see this technique on MANY more MOCs.

Actually, it is the 'hook' minifigure hand element.
Dan does nice work - we like to have him around!

I tried fitting minifig hands into the flex-tubing for handrails, and found
that they are just slightly too big. Are the hooks a better fit, or do you
use some method of expanding the hole in the tubing, Dan?

The hook hands work brilliantly and doesn't have the funny angle of minifig
hands. The side rails of the SD90 have a piece of 14 gauge copper wire shoved
down the middle to help keep the shape, but it doesn't expand the tube at all.
The cross rail on the caboose is held snugly in place without anything at all
shoved inside the tubing. If I had my way, there would be a 1x1 plate with a
migifig hand sized spike sticking straight up to connect the tubing to plates
for use as handrails on trains, ships, etc.

Yeah, the doors on the sides and ends. I acutally used a lot of dirty tricks in
these cars in order to get the purple trim and stainless steel look.

I love the subway scene! The silver is a nice touch. So the new layout
will have 8 wide trains and 6 wide subway cars? Cool!

Yes, we decided to go with 6 wide for the subway cars since they're only going
to viewed in profile anyway (those red windows are actually built into the side
of one of the modules - you will not be able to see the subway stations from the
angle in the pictures once the roof is attached). The street cars will also be 6
wide, to conserve street space, and we'll have several smaller loops for the 6-
wide "narrow gauge" Thomas trains. Otherwise all of the surface main lines will
be for 8 wide rolling stock.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Great set of MOCs! It's so fun to be overwhelmed by an on slaught of MOCs.
The capt'n hook handrails are great, although I don't think I can get any of
those back from my prirate crazed 5 yr old son! And one on of my favorite
pass times is to use rare & hard to find colors in color schemes. However us
old timers are still modeling in that rare color green. :D
And as for 8 wides, maybe one day I'll understand burning 2 studs fur nothin'

The white thing in the background is the arched roof for the subway station. It
has two rows of lights to illuminate the platform and station interior. Up
above on street level will be the city, which will also have streetcars running
through it (the Trolley pictured will be one). The actual subway cars will also
be lit inside aad have head/tail lights, but we're going to try to custom solder
LED's for this to make it all fit. There are two subway stations in the new
layout and each track will have multiple trains on them, controlled by an RCX.
Dan
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Dan,
Sounds interesting. As long as you are soldering LEDs, maybe you could wire
a blue one between the wheels and have it brush against contacts in the
track intermittantly to create the blue arcing effect so typical of these
trains. Now that would be neat!

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I like the SD90MAC, I had a 6 wide version of the SD90MAC, maybe i should go

| Lookin' good!
Big, powerful, well detailed.
The silver grills adorning the sides of the subway car are great!
The ladder on the caboose is very clever. If that's been done before, sorry I
didn't notice. It looks very nice.
I'm looking forward to "more to come...".

Wow, good looking stuff. Lots of new details in the railing and ladder category too.
Nice hand rails, I guess you have a LOT of hookless pirates and evil adventurers
now. Also, it looks like you have two SD90MAC's. I guess if you had a good shot
of them back to back you would have posted it, right?
It took me a moment to realize that the cylinders behind the front windows have
to be there to accommodate the angled windshield, which is a very nice touch by
the way.
Do you have details about the sizes of your work? We know how wide everything
is, but I was wondering how long the box car was.

Sorry for the delayed response - I've been busy with other stuff for a while...
Those big box cars are 42 studs long and the big hopper is 43 studs. the SD90
is 50 studs long, which exceeds GMLTC's proposed limit by 6 studs, but the real
thing should be even longer!
Thanks for the compliments by the way.

No need to apologize for any delay. I just like to get a feeling for how big
everyone is building. I think I caught Nealitis in a big way. Most of my stuff
is right at the GMLTC limit, and some of my stuff is over the limit by quite a
bit (15 studs over for my SD40-2[1]). But I am having fun building, and that is
the important part.
I didn't say it before, but those SD90's would look even more awesome if they
were longer :?) Again, love your work, and I am happy to have learned a few new
things while checking out your models.
Thanks for the extra info,
Chris
1. Technically, according to my scaling scheme, my engine is a few stud too long.

| A lot of John's stuff is over the limit too! J1 and I are convinced he

Tell him that he should build Ross Roland a Pacific or two, at that scale, coal
