| | | | | I haven't noticed this one yet (but someone has to have discovered it before
me), has anyone else noticed that the 3.5x4x5 rectangular doors (which hang
on the 1x1x2 brick) work in the sliding door rails? I'm going to build a box
car using these. They're a little narrow for a single door, but look nice as
a double door.

The nearest doors I can think of are 1x4x5.

| It's the black door that comes in the Bandit's Secert Hideout
http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=6761-1
I'm sure it comes in some other sets but that's the first one I thought of.
It also comes in pink in a paradisa set Cabana Beach
http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=cabana+beach
and I think a blue one in the Guarded Inn.
What other colors of that door are there?

| http://home.att.net/~partsref/images/3644.gif is the door he's talking
about sometimes called a barn door, or ridged door..
They come in red, blue, yellow, white, black... and I'm sure I'm missing
a few colors..
And that's a great idea Frank :) I also like the clear door idea :) I'm
sure we'll be seeing some of these popping up on the web soon, can't
wait to get a good look at some of them!

used to hand doors and shutters.

Oops, that's what I get for posting in a bit of a rush... Mookie and
others identified the correct door.
6769 Fort Legoredo has a couple in black. Now if only I could find more
sets with the rails (I used the 4 8 long rails from my two copies of
6977 Arachnoid Star Base plus 8 2 long rails from some other set).
I took pictures, so I should be able to post in a few weeks or so (the
roll of film still has a bunch of pictures left). For interior
detailing, I used up a bunch of my 2x2x2 brown barrels (which I've got a
bazzilion of from all the 6716 Weapons Wagons that I've been breaking
down) plus I used one of the Wild West figures to make a hobo riding in
the car.
I need to add a break wheel and need to figure out what to do for
ladders and grab irons.
I may also rebuild the car on a custom frame. Using a train plate makes
the car just a little too tall (it's taller than the engine I build from
my 4559 and 5542 parts). The doors are actually closer to 5.6 bricks
high (the build up of the wall is: 1 sliding door track plate, 5 bricks,
1 regular plate, 1 sliding door track plate). The fit is absoluteley
perfect.

A few weeks?!? I don't know if I can hold out that long, quick build some
other things to take pictures of and use up that roll. :-)

Colors I have seen: Brown, Black, Red, Yellow, Clear, Blue, Pink(!),
Original Gray (not the darker gray) and (I think) Clear Yellow.
I would suspect that newer sets have beige, etc.
The clears that I have come from 588 Police Station (or it's European
Equiv., 381): http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?query=588
MMMMmmmmm.....just the right number for a boxcar.
I'm not sure I know what the rail you are referring to is, to slide the
door.
I just "came out" of my "dark ages" (as I think 2 days of solid surfing
has hinted is the right terminology.) and I haven't gotten my legos back
from my parents. I still have them though. Two large U-haul boxes and an
4.5 battery train: Set 127.
I have a stupid question though. Why are the new switches (aka points)
non-remote? I remember that there were 12v trains (and the websites
confirm this) available in Germany with **remote** controlled points and
start/stop lights.
I also have seen 12v layouts that are not possible in current 9v track
rails, due to shorting.
How do model railroaders deal with this? I have to dig out my old HO rail
book. I thought it allowed switchbacks.
Oh, well....
Ciao!

2 blue in 6355 Derby Trotter
2 red in 1592 Town Square
1 pink in 6419 Rolling Acres Ranch

Can someone name a set with the Brown ones? I'd like to get a couple of
those if possible...
The red have to come in more sets though I can't think of any more off

I added them to the list below so we'll have them all in one place..
note: it looks like 6418 Country Club has 2 half doors in pink

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

| Looks like we have a few more to add, some mentioned by others and I "found" a
few more. Added below ... (please correct if wrong)
If anyone knows of any other colors or sets, please list. Thanks alot.
Now how many parts/sets do we have left to inventory ... about 3500? :-)

that way before.
There are some other pieces that slide well in those rails. Can't think of
them of the top of my head right now, I'm at work.

I'd imagine that the 1x4x5 window panes would work well in these as sliding
glass doors.

| I have a few of those doors on boxcars, but not used in the sliding capacity.
Used as regular doors, they for me make good reefer doors.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | That's how I was going to use the doors in the first place but then decided to
try them in the rails.
I've got to take some time to build some freight cars. Lately I've been busy
building scenery and a couple of new diesels, but first I need to order some
wheel sets and couplers.

| The idea has possibilities, as all of my box car sliding doors are gray:-p
(except a red one borrowed from the 7722)
Yo, Tom- when you do get around to building freight, why not try living
dangerously and spend some time on the 8 wide side. As Cat Stevens put it, "OOh
baby, baby it's a wide world, and it's hard to get by justaponna sixwide" Or
*something* like that;-)

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 8 wide !!! The idea has crossed my mind, do I dare crossover? Could I ever go
back? Heck, I suppose anything is possible, I dare to build mountain and
landscape(1) with ... BURPs. :-) I must admit although, it is fun to try to
stay within 6 wide, and I want to try my hand at some even smaller gauge.

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I hereby do admit that 8 wide CAN look good. John showed me a boxcar he
has been working on, it has a FRED in the end, integrated grab iron
ladders, sliding doors, separated roofwalk, and a whole bunch of other
details.
It looked really good. It also reminded me a lot of a G scale boxcar.
Really very nice work.
However... they are just not practical as 8 wide does not scale well
with minifig scale. This is the same reason I build my cars 4 wide even
though only one minifig can sit in each row.
So don't go in the 8 wide direction. The dark side can be deceptive.

Technically those are braces (they have buttonholes instead of clips).
Better mail them to me or no macaroni. :-)

We won't go into why that was but suffice it to say it had to do with
