We set up our 127,000 brick US flag at the Richard M Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda, California yesterday. The Orange County Register made this 110 second time lapse and audio/video posted at http://www.ocregister.com/video/index.php?bcpid=1127694947&bclid=1125901233&bctid=26229863001. You will have wait past 10 seconds or so of advertising to get to the start.

The flag will be on display now through Sunday July 12.

The June SANDLUG meeting will be on Saturday June 28 from 1:00-5:00 PM at Bruno
& Beth Todd's home in Pauma Valley (north of Escondido). Since this is in the
northern part of San Diego, it will be closer for any LUGOLA members that might
want to drive south.

We will be showing off MOCs, buy/sell/trade, parts draft of 4837 Creator Mini
Trains and 4838 Creator Mini Vehicles. If you're interested in attending, send
an email for the address.

Keep Building!

Hi

Does anyone have any dark grey bricks for sale?  (Old dark grey--NOT new dark
grey).  I need about 500 to 1000 2 x 4 bricks.  I've got a deadline on a project
so I'm willing to pick em up if you've got em.  And I'm willing to pay whatever
you ask.  I need them by the end of this week so email me (henry@henrylim.org)
ASAP.

Thanks

Thanks Thomas. Just thought I would drop a line here about the last meeting.

Dude! Where is the LUGOLA old skool? I was the only one there and you know what
a lazy bastard I am. What's up with that? Since this is our first meeting of the
new year let's start it off right. I may/may not have something new to show but
I'll bust something out. So see ya Saturday.

You would have caught me :)

And just a general commentary on the state of our group, I think everyone is
just too busy here in Los Angeles. We've packed our lives so full that it seems
like there's no time for Lego. That might just be me though.

Real problem isn't how busy we are, but how spread out we are. Our members come
from all places between San Diego and Bakersfield, that is why we are constantly
trying to find some sort of middle ground.

I think my place (in Torrance) has been offered up before, but I've been kind of
quiet about it because of the working on Saturday thing. I'll try to schedule
time off in the next couplethree months to either play host or attend elsewhere.

Your place would also be great, just let me know when possible and we will
arrange it.

Heya Thomas,

Many thanx for hosting this meeting, your work site iw a very nice spot. Sorry I
missed most of you, I showed up about 30 minutes after you all left, darn work
issues.

Anyway, Every two months would be wonderful, in the past our biggest hurdle has
always been location. Sundays are traditionally bad, and too close to the
holliday is a bit rough as well. Bryce had mentioned wanting to host a meeting
soon, perhaps he will hold the next one. Either way it is great to know that
Thomas's work is an option.

For the record, my vote would be for 11/11 or 11/18.

In order to get as many people as possible to attend, we are having a poll in
order to get your input. Please post your ideas regarding meeting dates, times
and places. All input, either general or specific, is welcome.

Since somebody has to be the first one, here are my preferences:
- Saturday or Sunday afternoon/early evening
- good days include 11/04/2006, 11/05/2006, 11/18/2006, 11/19/2006, 12/02/2006,

5) I'm not really big into the "Technic look" of Lego building although
I really appreciate learning from the visible enginuity that that
building technique shows off.  Can anyone recommend some particularly
good sites that show off more "beauty models" that also incorporate
pneumatics in them?

Don't know about 'beauty', but my dancing Easter chickens were popular at work:
http://www.maj.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=109611

I ran them off the compressed air coming out of the wall (in a hospital), and I
had to turn the pressure way down to keep them from boucing apart...

Our family was out on a road trip yesterday, and stopped by the event. It
appeared to be very successful with lots of public participation. The model was
an alligator standing on his hind legs, probably about 8 feet tall when
finished.

There were many tables with bricks and laminated instructions for the public to
build 400% scale 2 X 4 bricks (without studs on top). The bricks were being
assembled by the LEGO staff into the actual alligator model. I did not speak
with them, but there seemed to be two Master Model Builders, as well as many
people from the LEGO store. We were there late in the afternoon, and they seemed
to be pacing themselves to stretch the build over the three days. It appeared
that big containers of finished bricks were being taken back to the store and
being disassembled behind the scenes. Either they were disassembling bricks that
weren't built properly, or just disassembling many bricks to allow other people
to participate.

People that built a brick were given a piece of paper they could take to the
LEGO store and exchange for a certificate of participation. That way they got
the traffic into the store, which I suppose is what the main idea was all about.
They had a small (6 inch) model kit of the alligator that could be purchased.
The parts were bagged with color instructions for $12.95.

So the event was fun to see, and was a good LEGO outreach to the general public.

So does the master builder (Dan Brown I'm assuming) write books during his spare
