Perhaps this is a lousy idea, but what about a monthly or bi-monthly update

Yes!

I was going to suggest some sort of a problem tracking system, but wasn't
really keen on suggesting a big huge development effort, hadn't done the
homework to see if there is a freeware tracking system out there somewhere,
and hadn't quite figured out how to do it with plain newsgroups.

Good suggestions.

With Todd's suggestion of LD subscribing to this group, each problem or
suggestion would be easily received, and could be datestamped and tracked.
The status of each problem could be posted as 'rejected', 'in committee',
'drawing board', 'will consider' or whatever else. And if it seemed like
something was a potential good idea, but LD would not rather address the
problem soon, the status could read, 'wait X months'. (It almost sounds like
a Magic 8-Ball :-) But at least stuff could be briefly addressed.

Yet with this system, people would have to understand that a detailed 'why'
of a rejection wouldn't be expressed, unless someone at LD wanted to say
why. But at least we know that somebody read the problem or suggestion. And
we should all understand that LD/TLC cannot be legally held to any answer(s)
they give, should they change their minds.

(...) I don't blame you. I didn't want to say too much because obviously LD is gonna do what they want, and since I don't know inside details I couldn't recommend exactly how it should work. But one thing I might not have said directly, but should (...) (24 years ago, 2-Feb-01, to lugnet.lego.direct)
