Started mid-2004 and not finished until hours before its debut at the National
Air and Space Museum on April 16, I present to you my 1/275th scale Salamis Kai.
An upgraded version of the original Salamis from the 0070s, this ship contains
an added mobile suit hangar, launch deck, and related facilities as well as
added armament. One of the most successful ships designed by the Federal
Forces, it was used from the late UC 0080s through the UC 0150s.
The model itself is a bit over a meter long and probably weighs between 20 and
30 pounds. Id estimate between 7000 and 10,000 pieces were used to create it,
although I didnt think to keep any sort of tally. The color scheme is not
really a match to any of the authentic versions, but somewhat of a combination
of the EFSF and AEUG color schemes. Overall, Im quite pleased with the final
product; although Id like to redesign the hangar deck and the main double
barreled mega particle cannons.

Sweet ship, Jeff! I love the way you interlock different slope bricks to
create different planes. I find the scale of it especially satisfying--vast
without threatening to crush small onlookers.
What is the Maersk blue behemoth in the background of the photo

Thanks! It is actually larger than Id originally planned, but as I built more,
thats the scale it wanted to be.
It helped that I had a good diagram that matched up 2 studs per tick on my
ruler. XD
That would be Dans luxury liner Shangri-La. There are more images of it in the
NASM event galleries. You can access them from either the .events group or the
wamalug.org homepage. :)

Now that is a cool ship to model!
I am totally intrigued by the front end of that ship!
So VERY cool how you made the it!
I like all the design features, from the rear end fan tail shrouds to that
magnificent front end!
Plus you completed the build just hours before the show! That is awesome, hats
off to you sir!

Nice Work Jeff, upon first inspection I thought it was something from
Starblazers. Very cool hull shape and paint scheme. My only real complaint was
the guns, but you addressed that already. Id love to see it in person.

Excuse me while I cry. ;_;
On the other hand, at least you didn't think it was a Spanish Galleon like one
four year old girl did! ;)

Did you have a complaint about any of the guns other than the twin mega particle
cannons on either side? if so, I'd like to hear it. :)

Better yet, it had the right mix of difficult and easy elements.

Oh wow Jeff! What a terrific aircraft carrier! Or is it that ship from that old
cartoon Starblazers!?!
Seriously though, Im not sure I said so in person, but this thing is pretty
cool looking, and well put together (rock solid). Theres some great use of snot
to achieve shapes thats subtle enough that people may not see it at all, and I
think thats the entire point of snot.

About the guns, because the black sucks the detail out of the guns they look
kind of like tumors. Just changing them to a shade of gray might fix the
problem. In general they just look a little under-detailed, but don't take away
from the grandeur of the ship. I'd like to give you a more concrete suggestion
of what parts to use, but I'm not good at describing that kind of thing. Again,
it's a smokin' cool ship.

Dude. I so loved that submarine of yours from Captain Harlock. Cant wait to
see it again with Veritechs on the runway.

Black doesn't photograph well; they're a lot more detailed in person. I'd
considered Dark Grey, but I didn't have the parts at the time. I plan to get
the parts, though, because I want to try it and decide if I like it better (I
even have an idea for mixing new and old dark gray that might look good), but
that may be a few months off.
Another problem was that I wanted the barrels to be individually posable, which
presents some construction problems on the smallest guns.

What about building a mockup and getting pictures? Or linking to the parts on
Peeron or something? I'm very interested in other construction ideas for the
guns.

Thanks! I definitely agree with you on SNOT. :)
Oh, and I look forward to you finishing that ship from the Fifth Element with
the swimming pool! :D
