I took a break from studying midterms to build a small ship, somewhat inspired
by an idea I posted in August.
This was a chance to use some dark red and other parts aquired in BrickFest
purchases. I really like the clean studless look (which Phil Painter does
really well). Its funny how the last two ships Ive built (the
Spiffcraft and this one) are circular, but the building
technique is completely different. Just about all of the SNOT in this one is
thanks to more than 20 1x1 Technic beams with half-pins.
Some tricky parts with this MOC included fitting the flaps and landing gear
(inspired by Jons T-Wing) into a space no more than one brick thick. I think
it turned out pretty well.
Please LMKWYT! Comments, questions, criticisms, etc encouraged.

Bram, wow. This is one sweet little craft. Love the contrast of the sleek
round flat disc with the fin and cockpit/engine. Some pro-crazy snotwork youve
got going there. And the use of dark red where and how you did really adds to
it; makes it look even faster. Great flaps with the flags, and the greebled
underside is sweet. That landing gear config is so nice. Also, great work
using that evil cockpit piece and getting the whole fig inside. Doors - why
didnt I think of doors! :-)
Awesome.

Wow!
I really liked this ship. Cool SNOT design and very innovative shape. It
reminded me vaguely of a much sleeker version of my own
Confederate Antigrav
Fighter. Your very cool creation might inspire me to make more ships with this
shape. Thanx for sharing!

Hi Bram,
I am not a huge space fan but your creation rocks! I love the circle form and
your snot construction. The white and dark red color scheme works well. The
detailed hull is nice as well.

Uh, wow. I really like the smooth design that everyone's doing.
This will inspire me to actually build more space stuff :)

Wow, a unique take on a winged craft! This is a great looking ship, with one
truly distinct shape.
The landing gear is a nice touch, too, but the coolest thing is the open area
around the cockpit. Thats just cool!

WOW - this is amazing! The unique shape, great colors and cool details (awesome
landing gear!) makes this ship ROCK! I love all the SNOT work and the engine
looks good too. There seem to be a lack on controls in the cockpit, though.
Awesome.

Hehe, I was thinking the same thing. The pilot must fly via mind control :)
Great ship though, and a nice, distinctive shape too.

Thats really cool, Bram. The whole ship has a really cool shape, and the color
scheme, dark red and white, works well. And the flaps and the landing gear is
really cool, especially for such a thin craft.
Only critisism is that the background is a bit distracting... it almost looks
like it has noise in it.

Familiarity with the 5 plates to 2 studs really helps here. The only SNOT parts
I used were
about 24 of these:

|

|

Also, great work using that evil cockpit piece
and getting the whole fig inside.

It was really difficult figuring out how to use that piece. I picked it out
because I didnt want anything large that would overpower the wing. Then I
tried to figure out how to use it in a standard configuration, but couldnt get
something that looked sleek enough and would still allow a fig to fit.
|
Doors - why didnt I think of doors! :-)
|
After that I realized car doors might help to get the right shape, I had to
search forever to find the barely-ever-used drawer with all the doors in
it....and when I did find it, I had to find some that hadnt turned yellow.
Glad you liked it.

There seem to be a lack on controls in the cockpit, though.

I know. Thats one thing Im not really happy about. It was difficult enough
getting a fig to fit inside that tiny cockpit, so I guess the controls are
hidden in the studs on top of the car doors...
If anyone has a solution for the lack of controls without fundamentally changing
the design, Id love to see it. --Bram

I didnt want to use my normal white background for a white MOC, so I grabbed
the first large piece of colored paper I found in my house. Unfortunately, the
fibers in that paper kind of stand out, especially since the paper has been
kinda crinkled. Ill try not to use it again. At least it seems not to have
affected file size much. --Bram

It seems like you might be able to fit the little space levers on the studs on
the doors, allowing for a throttle and a steering joystick.
Pretty cook design, I really like it overall.

Bram-
What a superb study break! I love it and would very much like to have it sitting
on my desk. I really like the overall form, the negative space (as Joe said:

around the cockpit. Thats just cool!), and the way in which you integrated
those dark red pieces. As Chris said, And the use of dark red where and how you

Alright, best wishes on midterms. Thanks for sharing such an inspiring craft.

Awesome. I love the landing gear and the red double lines with projections on
the wing, very dynamic and really nicely done. One set of pilot controls short
of a perfect score.

The only thing in an otherwise beautiful model is that I think the tail is a bit
disproportionately large. Nevertheless, you continue to inspire me to improve.
You make it look so easy - its only when I try to emulate such elegant
simplicity that I realise how difficult it is to achieve. Thanks for keeping the
bar high.

This is gorgeous Bram....so elegant. I tried to build a similar craft a while
ago, but couldnt coax a convincing oval out of 45 and 33 degree slopes...using
the long convex curves works wonderfully. Placing the cockpit on an angle works
so well too...breaks up the single plane of the disk just enough to make it
interesting.
Just love it.

Really neat little ship, Bram. Theres a lot of neat details. The ones that
stick out to me are the dk red fins that raise out of the wing, and using doors
to achieve the angle on the cockpit.
Good job.
