Har, I thought of something much worse when I first saw the Creator figures:
Lego could concievably re-issue a bunch of Star Wars vehicles in the new
Creator scale, say, starting three years from now (as the Episode II sets
are starting to fade from the scene). Pull out your wallets!
Anyway, this is all pretty obvious, isn't? The death of the mini-fig
appears to me to be written on the wall. It's difficult to imagine lego
maintaining two small figure scales indefinitely. Lego seems intent on
competing with action figures more directly, and the slightly larger Creator
figs allow for that.
Predictions: Half of sets with figures released in 2002 will have
Creator-scale figures. Also, Star Wars and Harry Potter, will, in a few
years, be among the last series of kits with the traditional mini-figs in
them. By 2005 (where have we heard that date before? :-) ) the traditional
mini-fig will be phased out of retail sets altogether (though perhaps
available indefinitely through shop.lego/bulk).

| (...) FWIW I think the death of the minifig is more about the expiration of the patent on those elements than anything else. The Best Lock figs are a straight rip-off of the minifigs we all know and love. I'd suspect Lego is going in this new (...) (24 years ago, 3-Feb-01, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.general)

| (...) I'm not sure I'd place that much significance on the Creator figures. I'd note that they look to be a similar scale to Fabuland (though perhaps with not quite the charm of Fabuland).
