Re: Smooth power or PWM for Lego train motors?

Mark Bellis wrote: > I've seen the DCC mod some people have made to motors, and read about > the overheating problem. the overheating is not due to the use of PWM, but because the task asked from those motors was too great. why do you think long (...) (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.trains)

(...) The problem with TLC is that they DO WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT. The old 12V trains were too complicated for younger children and needed much care. Thus, they were replaced by the easier-to-handle 9V ones. The trend continues; modern sets consist of (...) (25 years ago, 24-Feb-00, to lugnet.trains)

  Automatic train switching with RCX

Dear all, we've built an automatic train switching mechanism using the RCX. It detects trains using reed contacts (cheap devices sensitive to magnets) and switches two points so that the train stops and another one departs instead. We've tried to (...) (...) This may be a bit of optical illusion, for the placement of the oversize diameter place-holder wheels penetrate the 9v rail. Maybe that gives the appearance that the wheels stick out left/right farther than do the 12v wheels? See this (URL) (...) (21 years ago, 11-Nov-03, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: New stuff at the Train Depot

As before, Matt has made another great addition to his Lego train_depot. His model with the RCX in the boxcar may be just inspiration I need to buy Mindstorms.
