| | Re: Hypothetically speaking? the future of IR/RC trains
|
| (...) Before this goes way off on a tangent let me rephrase my question. What changes would you propose to the IR/RC train system to make it useful in a complementary way to the 9v system? I understand that some will never convert as they have (...) (18 years ago, 17-Feb-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

| | Re: Shay Chassis (Uni Joint Mods for Trains)
|
| (...) I experimented with using paper fasteners as pickups with the 12V railway a few years ago. I wrapped each one round a toggle joint and rested it on the conductor rails. This would probably be a bad idea for 9V track as scratching it would wear (...) (20 years ago, 11-May-04, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.trains)

| (...) That would seem to be correct, but you're forgetting that if you put big wheels on the battery motor, and connect it to a 9V motor with its small wheels, they'll try to go at different speeds (assuming, as has been suggested, that the motor (...) (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.trains)

|
| (...) Sort of, it was rec.toys newslist, I think there were about 50+ LEGO fans on the list at the time. In fact the fans in the SF Bay Area (now BAYLUG) had a privet Email list at the time that spun off the rec.toys list. (...) They big advantage (...) (19 years ago, 17-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

| | Re: 12V to 9V - why the switch
|
| (...) Was there a Lego community in 1991? I can see a lot of advantages in the change: 1. Better pick-up of power through the wheels on the inner edge of the track. Sprung contacts like on 12V trains are prone to wear and spark damage. 2. One-piece (...) (19 years ago, 17-May-05, to lugnet.trains)

Although LEGO made a train headlamp kit, the wire coming off the motor connector tended to get in the way, especially on turns. We (...) (17 years ago, 11-Jan-08, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

| I also am a firm believer in running short trains with LEGO®. Not only do they tax the 9V motors less, but they're easier to manage and somehow convey a more dramatic effect to my eyes...especially when using two-axle equipment. -Harvey (22 years ago, 10-Oct-02, to lugnet.trains)
