Huw,

Very nice work!  I love the nose extension.  Very characteristic.

The 1x4 light brick could be used if the 1x4 quarter round green bricks are
used instead of the green 1x1x1.3 with tab.  Since the 1x4's don't have the
tab, maybe that 1x4 light brick could be put on its side as previously
suggested.  Hmm, now to dig up any 1x4 lighting bricks.  Pitty about the
reverse polarity "flashing"...hrmm....

Simon, thanks for the compliment.  I urge everyone to take another look at Eric
Brok's work.  Particularly take a look at his Thalys passenger train set- he's
worked some nice SNOT on the nose of the Thalys engine:

Eric did a very cool job of illustrating his construction, as well as showing
nose/cab ideas that he didn't pursue.

later,
James Mathis

This is about the closest I've seen to a 37 in Lego, but I do not think • it
is
supposed to be one either. Nice work Huw, have you considered installing
working headlights to put the icing on the cake?

The SNOT technique prevents that with the standard 9v train lighting • piece.
Dont' know about earlier lights, though...

How about the 1x4 twin light units from 9v Town vehicles, connected via
cable. The bulbs would have to show through the front, possibly with colour
filter domes. Unfortunately, they would flash alternately when the train
goes in reverse! Errr... Don't drive it in reverse???

(...) A few more ideas, can't the standard 1x4 lighting bar (5310) be used with a tile on top, etc. Alternatively you could use a pair of the lights used in 5310 on their side - I don't have any of those lights so I'm not sure about space. (...) (...) (24 years ago, 19-Apr-00, to lugnet.trains)
