LEGO killed the train club —Rob Hendrix
Man, LEGO trainheads used to live in a thriving community worldwide with multiple clubs coming together and displaying larger than life train layouts at least once per year and then LEGO stopped making 9v trains... What do you miss most about "the (...) (13 years ago, 14-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO killed the train club —Timothy Gould
(...) LEGO still make 9v trains, they just run on batteries ;) Tim (13 years ago, 15-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO killed the train club —Rob Hendrix
(...) And the newest fall catalog 2011 has 2 train sets in it. Well, one complete with all you need to get moving. (13 years ago, 19-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO trains are great! —Reinhard "Ben" Beneke
(...) Hello - At least Lugnet Train newsgroup has not been killed! I have to agree, that 9V is preferable for Club layouts, since battery power is not easy to be supplied for daylong operation. The rechargebale box loads extremely quick, however the (...) (13 years ago, 19-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO killed the train club —Russell Clark
(...) We did have a four club display at the NMRA National Train Show this year. I am working on an article about it. Russell BayLTC (13 years ago, 17-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO killed the train club —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Next year is Grand Rapids, MI... hoping to top 4 clubs but it's time to start organizing it. Who is in? (13 years ago, 17-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO killed the train club —Russell Clark
(...) Larry, we don't have as many clubs out West like you do in the Midwest and back East. I'm lucky I got what I got. :) Russell BayLTC (13 years ago, 17-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO killed the train club —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Wasn't dissin' ya! You guys did great. I'm just worried that NMRA participation peaked around the time of Cincy/Philly/Detroit... (13 years ago, 17-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO killed the train club —Scott Lyttle
(...) I think the one distinct advantage that NMRA 2005 had was that it was centrally located for just about every club on the east coast, and a good chunk of the midwest. I know 2013 will in Atlanta during July 14-20, and I will most likely be (...) (13 years ago, 18-Oct-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO killed the train club —Cale Leiphart
(...) PennLUG may be interested or at the very least I would be if there was a LEGO Train display organized. Cale (13 years ago, 23-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO killed the train club —Jeff Van Winden
(...) Hi Larry, There has been some discussion in the Ontario LUGS about going to an NMRA Train show again, I assume the Dates for the Train Show would be Aug 2nd - 5th (ish) I will ask around our Lug and see if there is any intrest. Jeff VW (13 years ago, 23-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO killed the train club —Benn Coifman
(...) I'm interested, too far off to forecast, but keep me posted. (13 years ago, 29-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: LEGO killed the train club —Cale Leiphart
(...) I miss absolutely nothing about the 9v days. Since switching over to Power Functions I've been having more fun than ever with my train MOCs. They run better under PF and I have a lot more versatility in what I can do. Sure it's not as easy as (...) (13 years ago, 23-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: LEGO (has not!) killed the train club —Reinhard "Ben" Beneke
(...) (URL) (...) Cale, this engine is stunning and really beautiful with all it's details! I agree with you on the extreme play value of power function. LEGO did well on this system. By combining 9V + IR-trains + PF-trains the system wins even (...) (13 years ago, 23-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: LEGO (has not!) killed the train club —Cale Leiphart
(...) Thank you Ben. I have to say that when I started building LEGO steam several years ago your models were one of my big inspirations so you praise means a lot. I agree that combining systems can provide some excellent modeling opportunities. Add (...) (13 years ago, 23-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Train layouts (Was: LEGO killed the train club) —Jacob Sparre Andersen
(...) Nice. The only thing which disappoints me a little bit with the layout is that it is as flat as Denmark (or maybe even Holland). At the recent LEGO Fan Weekend in Skærbæk, Byggepladen put together a layout with contributions from about 20 (...) (13 years ago, 28-Sep-11, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Train layouts (Was: LEGO killed the train club) —Cale Leiphart
(...) Very nice. I agree that the flatness of our layouts is something that needs some work. As we're continually evolving our layout adding more terrain elevation change is one of our next priorities. Cale (13 years ago, 12-Oct-11, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Train layouts —Jacob Sparre Andersen
(...) Thanks. (Although my contribution only was a single house.) (...) I am toying with an idea, where I want to print the foundations of a (highly detailed, possibly fractal) landscape on a 3D printer, and then only use LEGO for the "top-soil". It (...)
