Maybe this is common knowledge in Lego train community, but I have never
seen mentioned that points can be used as insulated tracks. Here is an
example of reversing loop with standard Lego parts:

You don’t need to break your tracks for reversing loop project and this loop
type takes only one of your straight tracks which are often needed
elsewhere.

Doesn’t this have the possible flaw that if you set both turnouts to route in
the loop direction that you could still get a short?

Hello,
interesting design and quite simple, but like Larry pointed out, no matter what
is the position of “A”, if you set “B” to turn, you get a short. Leave “B” to
strait amd when a train come to “B”, it will push the alingment to pass and stop
after the motor cross.

| (...) That, as I see it, is the idea. The point B is always set straight. There may be momentary short(s) when the motor pushes it to curve to pass, but once it is past and stops, switching A then supplies it with current, now in the opposite (...) (20 years ago, 10-Aug-04, to lugnet.trains, FTX)
