   Hello!

I have completed another street for my layout this weekend:

Wow. This is really impressive. The details are wonderful, rendered only by one who has had first hand experience of them. Major kudos to you, Jonathan. You are truly an “Ashcanner” as I fear that I am not.

I have to say that your level of detail has actually disturbed me as a builder. For I (as you have made me now realize) have had a pretty romanticized view of “the city”. I revel in constructing “realistic” buildings in “realistic” colors, but only in the sense of those buildings in the splendor and glory of their interesting architectural designs and details. I concern myself with textures and treatments, as if I were creating work of art, not a slice of reality.

That is not to say that your work is not art, only that it is MORE. You are a “realist” ashcanner, which I guess is an oxymoron; it makes me realize that I am but an ashcan pretender.

But still, that is how I want it. I want my cities to be “perfect”. I want to build in great detail, but I haven’t it in me to “go the distance” as you have.

You have done what I cannot bring myself to do, and for taking “the city” to the next level, I applaud your work. I am not worthy:-)

Wow. Thank you. You’ve described me right on and that means I am heading in the right direction with my creations and getting across what I want to get across. Thank you again. I don’t know if you’re aware of how good you just made me feel. :o)

My general thought on the Aschcan approach is that it really doesn’t get much more Achcan than this creation of yours:

That was and still is the benchmark for the Ashcan school of building.

A pretender you are not, my friend. No way.

Thanks once again and all the best!

Jonathan
