  New Fire Station

Hi all, I just put up a few pictures of a new station I just finished for the St. Lego Fire Dept. It is an old style station with a tower and a sloped roof. Pictures are at (URL) Let me know what you think Thanks Tom D (23 years ago, 19-Jun-01, to lugnet.town)

(...) That looks cool, I also lloked at the other images, I noticed you have a midship airel platform truck, I've noticed that lots of poeple have midships now, which is amazing to me, when all of the Sixby & Woodchuck thucks are stern mounted. (...) (23 years ago, 19-Jun-01, to lugnet.town)

(...) Tom, I LOVE this station. It reminds me of one of my first, and therefore favorite sets, Engine Co. #9. I dig your use of castle doos and all the other little details. When are we going to get interior pics? GREG~ (23 years ago, 19-Jun-01, to lugnet.town)

I've made rear-mount towers in the past, but in order for them to fit in the stations, the bucket has to pretty much cover the front window, so I went with the mid-mounts. I like the mid-mounts because they allow the trucks to get closer to the (...) (23 years ago, 19-Jun-01, to lugnet.town)

Hi Greg, Thanks, I am glad you like it. I have been using the castle doors for awhile now, I think they give the stations a "rustic" look. I haven't quite done the interior yet. I have 9 stations built, and two complete interiors, and just don't (...) (23 years ago, 20-Jun-01, to lugnet.town)

(...) Great work as always Tom. (...) Actually the first midmount tower I saw was from Woodchuck County, and that was even before Rodney's site went public. He sent out quite a few pics via E-Mail to those interested. As far as Sixby Fire Tech goes, (...) (23 years ago, 20-Jun-01, to lugnet.town)

(...) midships (...) I designed a midship ((URL) the Lego ladder is simply too short to make a decent rearmount by itself (in my scale) and makes one that is too long when joined end-to-end. From an engineering standpoint I also think that a midship (...) (23 years ago, 20-Jun-01, to lugnet.town)

It's a combination of bothe being deliberate and coming from real life inspiration. Growing up in the Northeast, around Boston, there aren't many "modern" fire stations to draw inspiration from, so I go with what I have. I do have a few, but I am (...) (23 years ago, 20-Jun-01, to lugnet.town)

(...) Thats exactly why I like it too, even though mine are 6 wides, the truck woulde end up being too long on a stern mount for my streets, they'd get hung up on the curbs... Josh (23 years ago, 20-Jun-01, to lugnet.town)
