I designed a midship (http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=35938)
because the Lego ladder is simply too short to make a decent rearmount by
itself (in my scale) and makes one that is too long when joined end-to-end.
From an engineering standpoint I also think that a midship mount provides
more stability.

Thats exactly why I like it too, even though mine are 6 wides, the truck
woulde end up being too long on a stern mount for my streets, they'd get
hung up on the curbs...
