It's a combination of bothe being deliberate and coming from real life
inspiration. Growing up in the Northeast, around Boston, there aren't many
"modern" fire stations to draw inspiration from, so I go with what I have. I
do have a few, but I am thinking of redesigning them. I would like to build
a Large Modern station, Rodney Gentry has a Wonderful one on Brickshelf,
but I am lacking the peices right now, and I can't see taking apart any of
my "classic" stations for that project.

I designed a midship (http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=35938)
because the Lego ladder is simply too short to make a decent rearmount by
itself (in my scale) and makes one that is too long when joined end-to-end.
From an engineering standpoint I also think that a midship mount provides
more stability.

Now, about that station...very nice.  It seems that St. Lego stations either
date from the turn of the 20th century or the mid to late 1990's.  Is this
deliberate or simply a result of real-life inspiration?
