Anyone else seen this? Looks like a monster!

My only advice would be to change the boom construction, or provide more
bracing. It will not be strong in the lateral direction, and will flop over
sideways during a heavy lift. Something like this is good:

Agreed. The boom design is not finished yet. I had planned on using beams
and liftarms to strengthen it, but I see you've used plates and liftarms
instead.  Worth a try.

He's gonna need a lot of ballast to lift that boom....
I'm not worried about the ballast. The axles however, they worry me.

The boom is too heavy (someone else mentioned to double cross. It will
go, as will some of the vertical pieces), but for now, I'm just building
small sections to try out.

(...) The ballast rigg is supported by wheels so than can bear heavy weights. (URL) suppose you use 20 x 30 technic wheels? Would it be possible to raise the ballast rigg or may the crane be unbalanced then? Big challange!! Dennis Bosman (21 years ago, 1-Apr-03, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.modelteam)
