Pedro,

John's advise is very good.  Experiment!...

Although this advice will result in getting something built, it's very time
consuming, and getting the desired result is difficult.

My first large truss bridges:
http://www.texbrick.com/creations/bridge_arch
http://www.texbrick.com/creations/bridge_straight
were built by trial and error. It took me quite a bit of time to determine
the member lengths and establish the bridge geometry.

My most recent bridge:
http://www.texbrick.com/creations/tr_br
was designed using my spreadsheets. I first "built" the bridge vitually, and
then moved to construction.

After experiencing both methods, I have to say using a computer to aid in
the design is best. You can design the bridge members, resulting in the
desired overall bridge shape, quickly and efficiently. The construction of
my recent bridges probably took a quarter of the time as my first ones. The
design is much, much better, and I only built them once ;-)

So, there you have it. You be the judge in determining the best method for
you. Each builder has a different way of construction that suits her/him best.

Pedro, John's advise is very good. Experiment! Sure, you might make something that at first you might not like but examine what you've made and ask yourself "How can I change it?" Then again, you'll make something you'll love one moment, come up (...) (22 years ago, 4-Jul-02, to lugnet.technic)
