Re: 8448 gearing problems —Fredrik Glöckner
(...) Have you made sure that all axles are loose and turn freely in the setup? If that doesn't work, you may need to redesign the gear box in order to properly motorize the car. The gear box in the 8448 is designed to have the wheels drive the (...) (23 years ago, 12-Nov-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 8448 gearing problems —Jennifer Clark
(...) Agreed. I remember my 8448 as being very smooth when it was built, and I was able to motorise it using the older 9V ungeared motor no problem. If my memory is correct I geared the motor down by 9:1 before the gearbox, and it would even start (...) (23 years ago, 12-Nov-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 8448 gearing problems —Daniel Crichton
(...) I ripped the gearbox apart and tried again, and I think I solved it - the motor I had on the mountings behind the engine to drive the gearbox was a bit loose so I'd added some plates to hold in place, and I think one of them was catching on (...)       (...) I seem to recall that a rug is like kryptonite to the power of a LEGO motor.. and for this model which I got when I was 11, and have always been very happy with, I solved the problem of slow motorization using two motors, two 3-stud gears and (...)         Re: 8448 gearing problems —Fredrik Glöckner
(...) I think it sounds like you have a problem with a stuck axle or something like that. Try to see if all the axles in the gear box run smoothly. Notice that in every gear position, _all_ the gear cogs in the gear box spin when the wheels are (...) (23 years ago, 12-Nov-01, to lugnet.technic)
