  Re: Gear train friction?

Amnon, I've also found a not in-significant source of friction is the bushes against the beams (or whatever your axle goes through). I've reduced this a bit on occasion by not using bushes to hold axles in position, but having a brick at each end, (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 3 Section Telescopic Crane Boom

I had another mechanism in mind. I'll see if I get a chance one of these days to make a prototype.... Duq "Jennifer Clark" <jen@vulture.dmem.strath.ac.uk> wrote in message news:G503FM.4tz@lugnet.com... (...) add (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

  Gear train friction?

One of the tough problems in building a clock is to design a very low friction, very tall gear ratio drive. I want the spool to turn around somewhat less than once every half hour, and the escapement to turn once every six seconds, so I need around (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Chain links (Re: Clock strikes hours)

Links are a Pitsco-Dacta item, but I don't know if they ship to Australia. They are really useful for solving tricky problems, and having two different types is handy. They are expensive, however. Sometimes I use them where I need a little more (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 3 Section Telescopic Crane Boom

(...) It would appear that there are some very large mobile cranes which can have independent control of each section, but it is still done with a single hydraulic ram and appears to done under computer control. I think the operator inputs the (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 3 Section Telescopic Crane Boom

How interesting! I've always wondered how the telescoping booms function. I originally thought the individual boom elements could be extended individually, but it appears that one of the elements control the other(s), as you've shown us. It looks (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

  8457 Power Puller

Some questions about the 8457 Power Puller How many chain it has? What kind of motor? How are the flex system? thanks (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: Clock strikes hours

(...) Sounds good except that you need a lot of links and last time I looked links are hard to fine (where I live anyway) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

  Micro Scout powered scorpion

Hey gang =) I just put pictures of my Micro Scout powered scorpion up at (URL) The parts mostly came from the Droid Developer kit but I had to throw in a few more gears and some other random parts. When the scorpion walks, it moves it's claws and (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.robotics)

  Clock strikes hours

I came up with a Lego implementation of a clock striking device that strikes a bell to indicate the hour. At 1:00, it rings the bell once, at 2:00 it rings the bell twice, etc. It is powered by a weight, and it will play the sequence of hours over (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 3 Section Telescopic Crane Boom

(...) What you are thinking of is generally referred to as a "multi stage hydraulic ram", but as far as I can ascertain, that is not how real multi sectioned booms with more than 3 sections work. An engineer friend of mine suggested that using this (...) (25 years ago, 3-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 3 Section Telescopic Crane Boom

Neat! I'd often thought about trying something like this! When I was a kid, (pre-technic!!) I built a gantry crane that used a complex series of cables (string) and pulleys. I only had 1 (4.5V) motor at the time, so all movement had to be controlled (...) (25 years ago, 3-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 3 Section Telescopic Crane Boom

Hi Jennifer, (...) 3-sectioned crane! I also thought how THIS might work in real an came up with that kind of cable-mechanism you used! But I never was able to fit it into a technic construction ;-(( But how does a real multi sectioned boom work? (...) (25 years ago, 3-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

  3 Section Telescopic Crane Boom

How many pieces in Spark and Flare?

I saw <set:8521 Flare> and <set:8522 Spark> yesterday. Not for the first time, of course, but it was the first time I looked at the number of pieces on the boxes.
