I didn't think air tanks were in the current spares catalogue
Lego Dacta, the education arm of lego, do pneumatic sets containing tanks, tube
T pieces and cylinders, see
http://www.lego.dk/dacta/
for details of where to buy.
Quite a lot of toy shops in the UK are selling 8299 search subs cheap (usually
20UKP) they have a switch, air tank, large cylinder and pump, and tubing and a
lot of yellow beams.
Does anyone have

You may be able to find electrical sleeving in the right size, silicone rubber
sleeving is closest to the Lego tube.
Using film cans is a great idea, but you will need more than one, I find the
standard tank is too small. I've been thinking of using a piece of small
plastic
drainpipe, and sticking flat ends on with plastic solvent. If it is successful
I'll let you know.
