Remembering my little car gives me some ideas, maybe not for reducing size,
but adding more functions in a small pack: for example, use a rear live axle
setup (it will save you a lot of space, but may not be as interesting as a
rear independent setup) and maybe you can add a front suspension set up...
but it will be slightly wide (up to 14 studs as far as I know, please tell
me if you can reduce its width), add pop-up headlights (it won't take too
much space), etc... Good job

Yes - the problem was not the width of the rear axle (it should be
possible to shave off abother 2 studs there and retain independent
suspension) but the steering mechanism at the front, with the wheels
against the cylinder block on full lock.  I want to keep the block low
so that the design doesn't hamper realistic car modeling.  As for front
suspension, I don't have any of those parts.  Pop-up headlights would
depend on the body in question.  Do you have a web address for your
little car?

But I would like more details for the Buggy: does it have suspension? Are
there more functions? Can you post a .ldr file? If I'm not wrong, did you
use only parts from 8437 Future Car?

The buggy doesn't really have suspension, but the upper body is hinged,
and restrained by the suspension struts.  There are some design
compromises - the engine block is chiefly supported by technic blocks
built into a wall, with some other supports, but I'm not happy with it.
And I'd prefer the suspension to work!  The engine, differential and
steering do all work.

I don't have an LDRAW file of it, but maybe one day.  And yes, it is
entirely made of parts from the 8437 Future Car, which was reduced to
£15 in Woolworths some years ago, and re-ignited my LEGO imagination!

(...) Which parts are you talking about? If you're talking about the special suspension parts on 8858/8465 or the ones from 8466.... I don't have either those parts. The .mpd file in my brickshelf page (see link below) has a little improvement to (...) (21 years ago, 29-May-03, to lugnet.technic)

(...) What if you used an inline four engine design instead of the V6? It should allow the front chassis, and therefore the steering rack, to be not as wide. I don't really think it would affect the realism of the model. Actually, if it's not (...) (21 years ago, 6-Jun-03, to lugnet.technic, FTX)

(...) Cool... It reminds me of my little sports car (See Cool New MOCs page), which the hardest part was fitting all those mechanisms in that tiny car... and creating those mechanisms from other parts (problem that I think I'm the only one who has (...) (21 years ago, 20-May-03, to lugnet.technic)
