Yes, perhaps, but this set is from 95. I believe that it ought to
have the newer style. Perhaps though, some versions of the set may
have the older, especially if TLC was trying to get rid of old stock.
But I always thought that 8082 was the last set to use these tires.

Looks good except that for the example set for wheel #2857, you
probably ought to list 8082 or something. 9735 only includes
the new style.

And... I thought of one more. The 8446 green crane from 1999
and the new red 82xx car on Michael Edwards' page use a new tire
which, I *believe* fits this wheel (6595). It is a treaded
baloon tire instead of a 'racing slick'.

This answers my question about the relative sizes of the
8479 and 5571 tires. They are, in fact, very similar in size.
I wonder why Lego felt they needed both of those wheels. It
seems like they ought to have just used the 5571 wheels for the
8479 (and adjusted the model's design slightly, to account for
them).

Well, you could always include the classic solid rubber tires
that fit the small classic 2x2 (approx) wheels. But of course,
these tires (all three types) do not have their sizes written
on them.

| (...) I just checked the set 8279 that you mentioned from Michael's site and seen that there is even more. Checkout those big tractor tyres/hubs, the slick ones in Silver Champion and the weird ones used in duel bikes. Selçuk (25 years ago, 10-Feb-00, to lugnet.technic)
