Fascinating.  So there are 3 distinct tires with "20 x 30" written
on the sidewall.  You are correct.  I think the "foamy" type tires
came with the 8280 fire truck, too.

Yes, perhaps, but this set is from 95.  I believe that it ought to
have the newer style.  Perhaps though, some versions of the set may
have the older, especially if TLC was trying to get rid of old stock.

But I always thought that 8082 was the last set to use these tires.

Ok.  Here's my revised table containing wheels from both Technic and
Model Team:

Part#     Side-wall Inscription    Hub Part#  Example Set
-------   ---------------------    ---------  -----------
3740     24 x 43 (foamy)          3739       8860
    ?     20 x 30 (foamy)          4266       8868
2857     20 x 30 (foamy balloon)  4266       9735
6581     20 x 30 (rubber balloon) 6582       9735
2696     13 x 24 (Model Team)     2695       8842

Looks good except that for the example set for wheel #2857, you
probably ought to list 8082 or something.  9735 only includes
the new style.

For the following tires, the 1st number in the tire's side-wall
inscription is the tire's OUTER diameter in mm and the 2nd number is the
tire's width in mm.

Part#     Side-wall Inscription   Hub Part#   Example Set
-------   ---------------------   ---------   -----------
6578     30.4 x 14 VR             2994       8247, 2129
6579     43.2 x 28 S              6580       8408
6594     49.6 x 28 VR             6595       8286

And... I thought of one more.  The 8446 green crane from 1999
and the new red 82xx car on Michael Edwards' page use a new tire
which, I *believe* fits this wheel (6595).  It is a treaded
baloon tire instead of a 'racing slick'.

32019     62.4 x 20 S             32020       8479
2995     68.8 x 40 Q              2896       8437
32003     68.8 x 24 S             32004       5571 (Model Team only)

This answers my question about the relative sizes of the
8479 and 5571 tires.  They are, in fact, very similar in size.
I wonder why Lego felt they needed both of those wheels.  It
seems like they ought to have just used the 5571 wheels for the
8479 (and adjusted the model's design slightly, to account for
them).

6596     81.6 x 14.2 Z            2903       8422
2902     81.6 x 15                2903       8838, 9719
2997     81.6 x 34 ZR             2998       8880
32196     81.6 x 34 ZR            32197       8448

32076     None                    32057       8417
32078     None                    32077       8428, 8462

Once again, any mistakes or omissions?

Well, you could always include the classic solid rubber tires
that fit the small classic 2x2 (approx) wheels.  But of course,
these tires (all three types) do not have their sizes written
on them.

(...) I just checked the set 8279 that you mentioned from Michael's site and seen that there is even more. Checkout those big tractor tyres/hubs, the slick ones in Silver Champion and the weird ones used in duel bikes. Selçuk (25 years ago, 10-Feb-00, to lugnet.technic)
