I had forgotten that you use those dixie bowls for sorting. I like them because their super cheap and easy to get parts out of.

Yeah, they’re great on those two criteria, but being round, they’re an awful use of space. Doesn’t anyone make square disposable bowls?!? I know there are some GladWare options but those are pricier and still somewhat rounded.

I use the Meijer workalike versions of these and have been quite pleased. I like that they are sturdy enough to be stackable and to hold a bit of weight. They are spendier but they seem worth it.

Do you have trouble with those bowls tipping over? That would drive me crazy. I dumped my shoebox of 1x2 grille tiles two days ago, what a mess.

I use a couple different setups when sorting--primarily because I’m experimenting with stuff. For 2 bucks, I found a 4 pack of square gladware containers at Wal-Mart some time ago. Lar has seen them, and I recall he commented that he liked the rectangular ones with two pockets in them (one to grab parts, the second to pull parts out of that handful.

The other technique I use? X-Pods. I use the clear containers when sorting small parts. The reason I do it is because my Lego room is a little small, and I’ve only got 1 TV in the house (downstairs in the living room. I’m single, so Lego around the house isn’t an issue). The benefit is that I’ve got about 15-20 of those containers, when I’m ready to dump in my sorted bins, I just stack up 20 of them and walk upstairs real easy, since the clear containers are locked together. Unfortunately, it only works with small parts...
