I dont know if this has been announced here on LUGNET, but NELUG,
http://www.nelug.org/ recently purchased a new trailer to store and
transport our LEGO collection and train tables. Although the details of
making this happen were a bit complicated, the end result can be seen here
on BrickShelf.
We are still working out the best way to store everything so that it will
not be destroyed when we actually move the trailer. I would guesstimate
that a whopping 60-80% of the club-owned brick is currently built into
models. (That number could drop to about 20% after a single road trip!)
Were not quite at the hitch-n-go stage yet, but we should be by the time of
our next train show, which is in about three weeks.
If you compare the picture 16packed.jpg to 25loaded.jpg, you can see how
much better the same amount of LEGO fits into the trailer after we installed
the shelving.

One suggestion: Get more straps to prevent stuff from sliding sideways off
the shelving units! Looking at 25loaded.jpg, I see a box sitting on top of
the tables on the left side, and several modules just sitting on the shelves
on the right. Strap em down, because youd be surprised how much stuff can
slide...

We have more straps, but we didnt have enough E-Track clips to tie them down
to. We found out (two weeks too late!) that one of our members works at Cap
World, so hes getting more clips.
The big problem is all the models. We have several buildings that are currently
sitting on shelves, and no mere bungy cord is going to keep them in one piece.
We need to somehow pad the models or wrap them in Saran Wrap to hold them
together. Probably our best bet will be to get a cardboard box that is large
enough to hold each model, and stack them on the shelves with bungies to hold
them in place.

Nice trailer! You gonna put a big logo on it?
|
Weve been talking about that, but we havent made a firm decision yet as to
what were doing there. But the trailer is so big and shiny and white that it
is screaming out for a full-color decal or a decent air-brush job.
