Storage thoughts

Seeing Bob Carney's well documented lego setup got me thinking about the
topic of sorting/storage again. I have a few different topics to address in
this post.

First I'll describe my storage.

I currently have 21 3-gallon clear rubbermaid tubs for the bulk of my
collection. (2 are used for my brickbay store). I'm lucky enough to have
scavenged identical containers from various sources.  It looks like these
were made during the early 90's.  Unbelievably there is a grocery store
nearby that has about 6 more of these (very dusty).  The copyright on the
lables on these newer ones is 95.  I'm sure I'll be grabbing these when I
take my spaceship apart because many of the tubs I have now will likely
explode with the ship's parts.  Its nice to find more that look and stack
the same so I'm going to take advantage of that.

I also have 6 smaller (I think 1 gallon) tubs that seem to be from the same
line.

Next I have 6 (3730) Plano tackle boxes which hold the smaller bits.
Unfortunatly these don't appear to be made anymore.

I use 1 big clear (15 gallon?)  container with 2 red flaps that fold in and
sort of lock in place.  I put baseplates and instrutions in lego boxes in
this.

Lastly, I have 2 Mindstorms RIS boxes.  One of them is for random technic
stuff and the other is for more instrutions. (I put it's plastic tray in my
Black Seas Barracuda box.  This is the only Lego box I keep for sentimental
reasons.)

I also have a white plastic table that was bought at Sam's.  Its 6' long and
is completely used up by my ship for now.

Here is a pic of my collection (not including my store):

Now that you have an idea of what my storage is like I have a few questions:

1. How/where do you build?  The only way I have ever built is on the floor
with the tubs and tackle boxes sort of wrapped around me.  I know many of
you sit at a table and build.  Do some of you do both?

2. I just bought an Akro Mils 23 drawer cabinet.  I bought this for my
brickbay store to kind of test it out.  I like it but for even my relatively
small store the smallest drawers seem too small.  I know many of you have
mentioned this problem.  Which do you prefer -- the Akro Mils style drawer
cabinets or the Plano style tackle boxes?  Do some of you use both?  I would
think if I were going to sit at a table the drawers might be better.  But
the tackle boxes would seem to be better on the floor.

Any thoughts and ideas are welcome!
If anyone is interested I might post some individual pics of my tubs and
sorting process. (Geeky I know, but I thought it might be useful to someone)
